Your spelling rule to learn this week is adding suffixes to words ending in ‘-fer’.
- transfer
- prefer
- refer
Create some ‘word families’ – Make a list in your homework book of all the words you can create from the words above by adding suffixes.
Remember sometimes the ‘r’ gets doubled up!
- The ‘r’ is doubled if the ‘-fer’ is still stressed when an ending is added – transferring.
- The ‘r’ is not doubled if the ‘-fer’ is no longer stressed – referal.
