Our School Day
The school day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 2.30pm each Monday, and 3.30pm Tuesday to Friday (meaning the total weekly figure is currently 32 hours and 20 minutes). Registration is from 8.50am to 9.00am.
Look at our timetables for a typical week (but please remember these illustrate a typical week, and so they will change often, and that they feature only the main ‘blocks’ of learning, and so don’t illustrate the extra activities that go on, such as Newsround updates in Y3,4).
Morning playtimes
At 10.00am, children from Reception to Year 6 have a short ‘brain break’ and a quick burst of exercise when we have our daily ‘Wake Up, Shake Up!’ session. Later in the morning, children have a break: 10.40am – 10.55am for children in Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1) and 10.55am – 11.10am for older children (those in Years 3 to 6 – Key Stage 2).
Reception have break times which are quite flexible. Towards the end of the school year, they join children in Key Stage 1 to have breaks at set times.
Lunch
Children in Reception have their lunch at 11.45am and then go out to play until 1.00pm. Those in Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1) have lunch and playtime between 11.50am and 1.00pm. Lunchtime for children in Years 3 to 6 (Key Stage 2) is from 12.10pm to 1.10pm.
Afternoon playtimes
Younger children have an afternoon playtime.
Drop-off and collection
At the beginning and end of the school day, parents are encouraged into the playground. This helps to build up a close relationship between home and school – we want to have good links with all parents. If normal arrangements have to be altered (eg you are delayed or another person is collecting your child), please let us know. This avoids any confusion or upset.
Getting to school
To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Alternatively, we have bike-racks. If you do need to travel by car, please park wisely.
