Happy and healthy
Scholes (Elmet) Primary School is a happy and healthy place to learn. We’re proud to be a Healthy School in recognition of everything we do to promote physical and emotional health.
Healthy activities happen all the time at Scholes:
- Daily activities, such as Wake Up, Shake Up (a short burst of dance each morning) and lunchtime play
- Weekly sessions of PE and Living and Learning
- Occasional activities, which include specialist visitors and local sports tournaments
- Annual events like the Being Healthy and Staying Safe themed weeks
Living and Learning is our term for Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). This is a really important aspect of our school and we’re proud that our children are happy and able to get on so well with each other. Read our Living and Learning Curriculum Statement and check out the current week’s Living and Learning statement in our calendar.
Pupils’ learning within Living and Learning sessions actively promotes fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Relationships and Sex Education is one part of our Living and Learning provision. Read more about Relationships and Sex Education at Scholes (Elmet) Primary, including our policy.
PE and sport funding is given to all primary schools each year. First introduced in 2013, the money can only be spent on PE and sport. To maximise the long-term impact of our PE provision for pupils and staff, we invest the money in various ways and then closely monitor the impact of these initiatives through assessment of children’s skills, staff and pupil feedback, uptake of clubs etc. We are required to report how we do this. Find out more about PE and sport funding and read our provision plan which details how we invest this money.
We are part of the Boston Spa (Leeds East) School Sport Partnership.
The Eight Rs for Learning promote good learning behaviour. Characteristics of effective learning include resilience, reflection and responsibility. Read more about the Eight Rs in our guide for parents and carers.

We welcome views on any health issues from parents and carers. Occasionally we arrange meetings with parents and carers to discuss relevant health topics.
