Maths fluency – new app
The children have been using a new app we have on the iPads called White Rose 1 minute maths (it’s free to download).
This is a fantastic app to use alongside Numbots in order to support your child with their maths fluency – knowing number facts instantly.
A huge thank you!
Last half term, we set the children a maths challenge in which they had to learn some number facts or some multiplication tables. We asked the children to collect sponsors and see how much money we could raise for our school charity (Leeds Autism Services) and our school. You have absolutely gone above and beyond what we anticipated. The total so far that we’ve raised is £2318.15! This is just amazing and we can’t thank you enough – you are a very generous school community. This huge total will be split between the charity and school. Keep an eye out for more fundraising this half term, but again, thank you so much.
Super swimmers
We have two super swimmers in school, competing at city and regional level. They recently won gold medals in the 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley at the Yorkshire Swimming Championships. Keep a look out for them in the future. A massive well done from everyone at school!
World Book Day in 1A
1A had a wonderful time on World Book Day.
We all enjoyed sharing our favourite stories and what we liked about them. We also talked about the characters we came dressed as.
Topic – computing
Our topic this half term is all about computing.
We’ve starting with ‘offline computing’ – learning all about algorithms.
We are going to be playing, and making, lots of online and offline games. As this is a computing topic, we’ll be using a range of technology including Blue-Bots and iPads.
Here is a lost of some of the vocabulary that will be taught in the coming weeks.
World Book Day
It’s been an eventful first week back with both ‘Pancake Day’ and World Book Day!
We loved all of your super costumes and enjoyed reading some of your favourite stories. Here are a few snaps for you to enjoy spotting our favourite characters!
In maths, we’ve been learning about the number 3. There are lots of stories involving the number three, we read some of them as part of our World Book Day celebrations. Can you think of any?
In group time, we looked at 3 spots on a dice, 3 counters on a five frame and spotted that there were 3 corners and sides on a triangle. We all collected three things from around the room and counted them carefully to check that we’d all found 3. Have a look to see if you can find groups of three things around your home. Can you spot the number three on any house doors or number plates? We also liked watching this song all about the number 3.
Here are a few other activities that we’ve enjoyed this week.
Before the holiday, as part of their music sessions, children enjoyed making their own musical instruments. We hope that you had as much fun playing them as we did!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and World Book Day 2022!
Welcome Back!
We were so excited to welcome Reception back this week, after a very wet and windy half term break. Our outdoor area definitely felt the effects of storm Eunice but was soon back in action!
Let’s Go! is the name of our theme this term. We’ll be looking at the season of Spring and growing. We’ll also be looking at different journeys and the vehicles we might use to make them. At the end of the term, we will be learning about Easter.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
This week, our focus story was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We hope you enjoyed seeing the story come to life through the Reception Team’s World Book Day costumes!
This book has so many great learning aspects; we discussed days of the week, the life cycle of a butterfly, the ‘one more’ aspect of what the caterpillar eats at the start of the story and of course, we enjoyed re-telling the story.
Each morning the children wrote down their breakfast, to create a food diary.
We’ve also enjoyed creating symmetrical butterflies, sorting fruit and vegetables into where they grow, exploring our sensory tray, making dough characters from the story and more!
Maths
This week was all about meeting number eight and comparing numbers, especially identifying ‘more’ and using ‘one more’ to re-visit the ‘staircase pattern’
Can your child tell you how we make a staircase pattern?
World Book Day 2022
Wowee! What amazing costumes we saw on Thursday. Thank you for participating and for sharing your favourite books from home. Both the children and staff had a great day. World Book Day is one of our absolute favourite days in the school year, because reading and encouraging a love of books is so very important.
Home-link challenges
Next week, as part of our Let’s Go! theme, we will be reading a story about a journey into space. Please help your child find a fact about space that they can share in class. This could be specific to the vehicle used to travel to space or a general fact about astronauts/ space.
We’d really like to display some pictures of the first signs of Spring. If you go on a day out or a walk outside, please send in photos of anything you spy that is beginning to grow!
Reminders and messages
-Wellies: If your child does not currently have wellies in school, please bring them in. Due to the weather, our outdoor areas continue to be super soggy and muddy!

3,4 C Class News
On Thursday, we had great fun celebrating World Book Day.
We shared our favourite books and talked about our favourite characters. After watching a masterclass on creating interesting characters, we had a go at creating our own.
Our Topic for this half term is Computing. We can explain what a computer does using the words input, output and process. We are continuing to talk about the importance of online safety, referring to these rules to help us stay safe online.
World Book Day 2022
We had a fantastic day today, reading books, talking about books and dressing up as our favourite characters. The World Book Day song was a hit too.
We love reading and really believe books are a truly portable magic.
World Book Day!
What an interesting day! I don’t think I have ever taught Spider-Man or Gangsta Granny before. The children in 5/6 B didn’t disappoint with their fabulous costumes for World Book Day – they all looked great. During the reading lesson today, the children explored different texts and talked about their favourite authors. They created new book covers for their favourite books and rewrote blurbs, including some quotes. Some children created some excellent character profiles. We also enjoyed listening to an audio book.
