Y6 Swimming survey
As part of the government PE and Sport Premium for primary schools, there is a condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils in Year 6 are meeting the National Curriculum requirements. As school swimming lessons took place earlier in KS2, please could you complete this survey to provide up to date information for your child.

Living and learning : health and prevention (hand washing)
We have linked our Living and Learning lessons to our computing topic – particularly algorithms.
We talked about how washing your hands is an algorithm. You have to do each step in the right order for it to work. We all know how important washing our hands is!
Look Out, Ladybird!
We have been busy reading ‘Look Out, Ladybird.’ We thought about the skill of flying and how we are good at things when we show resilience. What are you good at doing because you did not give up when it was difficult?
There are so many skills that we have been learning in Reception-our Tricky Words and letter formation are a few of them. Our writing is becoming very impressive.
The weather has been glorious at times and terrible at others. One minute we’re coated up and the next we are sun bathing. Whatever the weather we enjoy being outdoors, building, creating, growing and sharing.
Our freshly painted ladybird rocks are a wonderful addition to our outdoor area. Our focus number has been 12. Some ladybirds have been painted with double 6 or double 3 on the wings. Can you spot yours?

What a fabulous week!
In PE this week, we have had fun skipping with our brand-new skipping ropes. We have counted how many jumps we can do in one go and have challenged ourselves to develop our skipping skills.
We are computer experts, too! Using Scratch, we have continued to build algorithms and create our own sequences of events and interactions between sprites.
Busy Bees
What a lot of busy little bees there were in Nursery this week. We learnt all about bees and how they make honey in their hives. At snack time, we tasted two types of honey including ‘set’ and ‘runny’ honey. Although some children were a little reluctant to try it at first, everybody had a taste and decided if they liked it or not.
At the dough table, some children chose to use the enhancements to make their own bee, carefully counting out 6 legs and 2 wings.
Our Fiddly Finger’s challenge this week also required lots of team work. We had to carefully remove the leaves from the bee hive without disturbing the bees. At tidy up time, we made sure that all the bees were there by counting them into a tens frame.
In our group time this week, we read ‘Oi Frog’ and tried to pair the animals to things that they rhymed with. Listen to the story and have a go at home. Cats sit on mats, frogs sit on logs, parrots sit on carrots… you get the idea!
Outside, we played a ‘bee’ game where we had to collect ‘pollen’ from around the garden. Children loved hiding the balls for their friends and then running to find them. After we’d collected the pollen balls, we counted them into a large five frame to see how many we had found.
A few weeks ago, we planted some vegetable seeds. We’ve been monitoring their growth carefully and this week, they were big enough to plant outside in our planters. Whilst we were digging, we found lots of worms! Children were fascinated with how they moved and the different sized worms that they found. We’ll follow this interest next week and learn more about worms and where they live.

Maths – fluency and facts
We are working really hard to increase our fluency and recall of maths facts. This week, we have been focusing on bonds of 10 and we are getting really good! It was our homework task, a daily morning job and we have shown 10 using multiple representations (part whole models, bar models, pictures and calculations). The Year 2s have also been working on bonds of 20.
Help at home by asking your child if they can tell you bonds of 10 or 20.
Super Science
Year 5/6 have been studying how we change and develop over our lifetime – physical or emotional changes. They have also been learning about events that happen at different points in our lives, such as starting school and learning to drive. We have been busy learning our vocabulary for this unit, which includes:

arthritis
gestation period
life expectancy
puberty
teenager
Ask your child if they can remember what these words mean. Can you play some games at home to help your child remember them. I highly recommend a game of Pictionary – can anyone guess what you’re drawing?!
Living and Learning
I recognise the importance of personal hygiene including handwashing.
This is our living and learning statement for this week and year 5/6 S have been exploring the importance of handwashing. They investigated different bacteria and how they affect our bodies, in negative and positive ways. They discussed how important hygiene is, particularly at the moment with Covid affecting our lives. They identified ‘hotspots’ in the classroom – these are high touch areas that need to be cleaned regularly to avoid the transmission of germs.
