Merry Christmas from Years 1 and 2
We were not able to do our usual Christmas performance this year… but we hope you like this instead!
Reading: performance poetry
This week, our reading learning has been focussed on poetry. We’ve read two poems, answered some comprehension questions, idenitifed key features and read them aloud. We really enjoyed reading aloud ‘The Dragon Who Ate Our School’ by Nick Toczek.

Help at home by…
Asking your child how they made the poem interesting when reading it out loud.
Asking your child to read it aloud to you.
Asking your child to identify some of the key features in the poem.
3,4O: Certificates
Our penultimate week of 2020 was another super successful one in 3,4O. We’ve been writers, scientists, historians, performers and sports stars this week and, as always, our attitude has been superb – trying hard, being kind, being active learners and having a little fun along the way, too!
Here are this week’s certificate winners:
For great learning…
Jimmy – you’ve smashed your tests this week because you consistently try your best. Well done, Jimmy!
For living and learning…
Jayden – you are a great friend to many people because you are kind, considerate and thoughtful.

Festive fun!
We’ve had a fun and festive week in Nursery. Children have been busily making cards and decorations – look out for these coming home in the final week. (The contents of the bags have been quarantined and haven’t been touched for 72+ hours, but as always, please follow good hand hygiene procedures.)
Here are a few of the activities that we have enjoyed this week.
- Making and decorating salt dough decorations and Christmas cards.

- Counting out the correct number of presents using the Interactive Whiteboard.

- Working with friends to decorate the trees outside.

- Making Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in the playdough area and learning to use a rolling pin to roll the dough out flat. In our Dough Disco activities, we’re also learning how to roll a ball using the palms of our hands.

- Writing toy lists and letters for Father Christmas.

- Playing outside and sheltering from the rain in our den.

Look out for our final post of this year on Monday…we’re sure it’s one that you’ll love!
Reminders
- Remember it’s our Christmas party on Monday 14 December. Please see the previous post for more information regarding clothing, times and £1 donation.
- Water bottles – please make sure these are NAMED and that your child has a water bottle every day, even if they only attend for an afternoon session.

Goldilocks pantomime
Thank you to Friends of Scholes Primary (FOSP) for paying for us to watch a panto. We really enjoyed it and there were lots of important messages for us to take away too:
- be kind
- listen to other people
- we can all be friends
- laugh and have fun

It’s beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas…
We are all feeling full of festive cheer this week after a virtual visit from Santa!
He left a video for us to watch and even rang our classroom to tell us he had left presents for each class.

We have completed lots of Christmas challenges in both classrooms; decorating pine cone trees; making Christmas pictures using shapes; writing about our class elf and wrapping gifts in the post office.

We also became gardeners and planted some bulbs. They are currently sleeping and we can’t wait to see them grow.

Living and learning : emotions
We have been talking about our emotions in our living and learning lessons. It is important to recognise our own emotions and well as other people’s emotions. Even if we feel a certain way, this feeling will not last forever and that is okay.

Fiery finale to our history topic – The Great Fire of London
We have really enjoyed our history topic – The Great Fire of London.
We have learned so much and saw how London might’ve burned today. We made some houses out of tissue boxes. Two houses were close together and 2 were spaced apart (with a firebreak in between). We then set fire to them. Ask your child what happened!
