5/6B certificate celebration

Posted on Friday 11 September 2020 by Mr Freeman

Having all the children back in school has been a fantastic feeling. One week in, I have really enjoyed meeting the new faces in 5/6B. It’s also been lovely to see the familiar faces, too! I couldn’t have asked for a better start to this year from 5/6B – every pupil has shown a fantastic attitude and a desire to learn. I hope all pupils are feeling happy and comfortable in your new classroom environment – you’ve all settled in so well!

Unfortunately, we can’t have our celebration assesmblies at the moment, so we’ll post our winners instead! Here are the certificate winners for this week.

For great learning…

Maisie K – You have started your first week in 5/6 like you’ve been here for years! Your learning attitude is fantastic, your hand is always up and you aren’t afraid to have a go at answering difficult questions. Keep it up, Maisie, and well done!

For sport and physical activity…

Maisy L – You have shown a fantastic attitude in our daily miles so far this year. You worked really well in your PE group and you are a pleasure to have in year 5/6B. Well done, Maisy!

For living and learning…

Michael – It’s never easy entering an environment that you don’t know. You have had a fantastic start this week and you have fitted into 5/6B really well! You are always polite, respectful of others and a pleasure to have in the classroom. You have shown good manners and presented yourself as a fantastic living and learning role model. Well done, Michael!

Off to a flying start!

Our class Novel, After the Fall, has been a super hit with the children. In the book, Humpty Dumpty makes a paper bird aeroplane – so we wanted to do the same!

We asked some great scientific questions:

Dolly asked: “How do planes fly?”

Sam asked: “Would paper planes fly further with heavier paper?”

Sadie asked: “If we could make a giant paper aeroplane, would it fly as far?”

Why not ask the children what we found out from our investigation. Perhaps, make more paper planes – test them out to see which one flies the furthest.

Enjoy your weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday!

5/6 S Certificate Celebration

Posted on Friday 11 September 2020 by Mrs Hogarth

It has been brilliant to have all the children back in school this week and it’s been lovely to finally meet the new members of my class. It’s also been great to see the familiar faces of the children I taught last year. Everyone has come into school with an amazing attitude to their learning and they’ve settled in so well – I’m so proud of them.

As we can’t have the celebration assembly on a Friday at the moment, we will be posting the certificate winners on here each week for each class.

For great learning…

Jenson- you have come back to school with a mature attitude to your learning. You’ve participated in all lessons and tried so hard with your work. Well done – keep it up!

For sport and physical activity…

Gaia- you joined in the PE lesson this week so well. You worked well in your team and also looked like you were having lots of fun! Well done.

For living and learning…

Imogen- you are a very polite and well-mannered member of my class. I have watched this week as you’ve helped and supported the new members of our class – thank you and well done.

Thursday afternoon means African drumming for year 5/6…. Possibly to the annoyance of the rest of the school.

Supporting reading at home in Key Stage 1

Posted on Thursday 10 September 2020 by Mrs Latham

Children will be bringing home at least 2 reading books this week. These will be changed once a week to minimise books moving between home and school.

Please return books to be changed on the days below. We will quarantine books before putting them back in the system.

1,2V (Mrs Latham) – WEDNESDAY

2C (Mr Gathercole) – THURSDAY

1KN (Miss Lowry/Mrs Lake) – FRIDAY

Children will be bringing home a variety of books. The ‘practise phonics’ book (sticker on the front cover) is for children to work on their ‘sounding out’ of words. A ‘children’s choice’ book will be chosen by the children and can be read together. Look at the pictures, talk about the characters or information and ask questions.

Please comment on how your child copes with the books as it may take us a little time to adjust and match books to each child. Year 2s will gradually move away from phonics books and have more children’s choice books and then freedom to be ‘free readers’.

Children will also choose a library book each Friday (all classes will visit the library on FRIDAY).

Here is a display in school explaining the new system, which you are not able to see yet. Help us help your child by reading anything and everything you can. THANK YOU!

Welcome Back

What a fantastic start to the new school year!

The Year 5/6 team is really pleased to see the children return to school.  With smiles and an enthisiastic attitude to their learning, the children have really impressed their teachers.

Today, the children have made predictions based on what happened to Humpty Dumpty after his fall. From getting an office job to narrowly avoiding a huge frying pan, the ideas came thick and fast.

Keep up the good work.

Own It app

Posted on Tuesday 08 September 2020 by Mr Roundtree

Has you child got a mobile phone? If they have, do the have the Own It app from the BBC?

The Own It app helps children and young people take control of your online life. It gives them advice when they need it, in real-time as they type. It’s designed to help them make smart choices, feel more confident, and live their best life online.

The Own It app comes with a special keyboard. This can be used like any other keyboard, but it also gives users helpful tips and friendly advice as they write.

There’s also the ability to track how they feel and improve their wellbeing. There are plenty of gifs and emojis so users can express themselves.

The Own It keyboard and app is personal to the user. Everything your child types is kept completely private, and never leaves the Own It app on their phone.

Welcome back!

We were all feeling a bit nervous and excited this morning.

It was great to see everyone and the children took all the changes in their stride.

We hope they’re all looking forward to coming back tomorrow!
