Week 2 home learning pictures
What another busy week! We have had lots of exciting emails to share all of the lovely activities you have been doing at home.
We think the baking/cooking activity must have been a favourite as we have lots of smiling chefs.
Anything we can do to help support your child’s learning journey please email .
WUSU – Shout Out To My Ex
Miss Parling and I did a video chat earlier and we danced to one our favourite WUSU songs. The audio is not the best but we hope you still join in and enjoy it !
Let’s rock!
We are loving hearing about all the amazing things you’re doing at home. Doing some art, dance, cooking, gardening and music all help us to feel a bit better at this tricky time. This put a huge smile on my face this morning – a great song! ‘Song 2’ by Blur : singing and drums by one of our Year 2 children accompanied by his dad on guitar. Amazing!
03 April: Hall of (home learning) Fame
Hello again everyone
Firstly, I hope you’re all keeping well and staying positive. It can be tricky to stay happy and healthy when you’re not going outside much but everyone I’ve had contact with has seemed as chirpy as always.
Thanks to the people who have been emailing regularly to stay in contact and get help when they need it. It’s really made me happy hearing from you. If you haven’t sent me an email yet, please do. It’s great to catch up with people!
Today is another exciting day for two people as they make it in to the highly respected ‘Hall of (home learning) Fame!’ #HoHLF
Entrant number 1 has been sending loads of pictures of her learning and it’s all been great! She’s been challenging herself and asking for help if she needs it; what a great skill to have. On a personal note, I really like, and appreciate, how this person always asks how I am and what I’ve been up to – it makes me smile every time. Well done, Lucy and welcome to the ‘Hall of (home learning) Fame!’
Our second entrant today has also sent a lot of images in. He’s been working super hard and has always kept in touch – thank you! What I like most about this piece of learning is that Alfie actually emailed me early in the day to say he was finding this task difficult. I replied with some hints and then later in the day received this picture of his completed learning – awesome effort! Well done and welcome to the ‘Hall of (home learning) Fame!’
Stay tuned for more entrants to our Hall of (home learning) Fame over the coming days.
Send photos to your class teacher’s email address accompanied by #HoHLF. Terms and conditions apply.
Terms and conditions: you must send a picture to be entered into the Hall of (home learning) Fame. Winners will be posted on this section of the website and will receive their prize as soon as they read it. The prize is a virtual high five from the Year 5,6 team.
The journey home
The chicks have grown even more since our last post on Monday. Mrs Long was having to refill their food several times a day! Yesterday, we decided it was time for them to return home to the farm where they can enjoy having a larger space to run around in.
Here are a few photos of them this week; you can see how much their feathers have grown. They also got even better at jumping and 3 of them managed to jump out of the cage when it was opened!
They were quite happy on the journey to the farm, pecking the box and eating some more food! Here are some photos of their journey and them waiting to meet Robert, the farmer.
We hope you enjoyed watching our chicks grow as much as Mrs Long and her family did. In the future, when places re-open, you might enjoy visiting them in their new home with your families.
3 April 2020: Home learning
Day 10 of your home learning pack
Music time!
Did your child make their own actions to the spring song? Can your child see any signs of spring in the garden?
Maths
Doubling! When teaching your children to double we talk about adding the same amount again. There is a fun doubles song your child may enjoy singing.
Letter formation
Has your child been singing the letter formation ditty’s whilst writing? Letters that are often difficult are s,b,d,e and a. Encourage your child to practise these.
Please email to let us know how your child’s home learning journey is going. If you have any questions we are here to help and will respond to emails during school hours: scholesf2@spherefederation.org
Story Time
Happy Friday, Nursery! Have you had a good week? We hope that you enjoyed seeing all of your teachers on Wednesday and that you had fun joining in with some of the Supertato activities. What was your favourite?
Today, Mrs Beesley is going to read one of our favourite Nursery stories, ‘The Monkey with a bright blue bottom’ written by Steve Smallman (published by Little Tiger Press). The story is about a cheeky monkey who stumbles across a paintbox and decides to have some fun. Nursery, don’t tell your grown up what happens; we know you love the funny ending!
Here are a few questions and things to talk about after you’ve listened to the story.
-
- Why did the monkey think the birds were pretty?
- What colour were all of the animals at the beginning of the story?
- What happened when the leopard growled in his sleep?
- Can you remember what the monkey painted on the bear? (What are spectacles?)
- How did the animals feel when they woke up and saw what the monkey had done?
- How do you think monkey felt when he was surrounded by all of the animals? Does he feel differently at the end of the story when they all laugh at him?
- Which is your favourite animal? Why?
- Think about the animals at the beginning of the story (grey) and at the end of the story (colourful). Which do you prefer? Why?
If you enjoyed the story and would like to do a few activities, here are a couple of ideas to get you started.
- Twinkl has some jungle animal colouring pages if you have a printer.
- We enjoy singing and moving to the songs ‘Animal Boogie‘ and ‘Walking through the jungle‘ at Nursery. Can you move like the animals in the story? You could hide some toy animals around the house or garden and make some binoculars (cardboard tubes or roll up some paper) to go on your own jungle walk.
- Draw and cut out some basic animal outlines and enjoy being cheeky monkeys with some paints or pens. What colour would you make a snake? What pattern would you draw on a giraffe?
Home Learning
Thank you again to everyone who has been in touch via our email. We really love to see what you have all been doing whilst keeping safe at home. It’s great to see so many happy faces. Here are a few of your friends learning and having fun at home…
Miss Morris and Miss Logan have enjoyed joining in too! Miss Logan made a ‘book in a box’ for Supertato and his veggie friends.
02 April 2020: Hall of (home learning) Fame
It’s great to know that you are all still working well on your learning at home. Some people have even created very precise learning timetables – I’m really impressed! I love it when people are organised.
Below are a couple of photos from Lilia and Freya who have been busy completing the year 6 maths challenges. Well done!
Arty afternoon
Today, with my children, I have been researching the artist Henri Rousseau, a French painter born in 1844. He created many paintings of jungles, however because he had never visited a jungle, he based his ideas on trips to botanical gardens in Paris. My children and I had a go at creating our own jungle scenes and we used water colours to add colour.
Can you guess which one is mine?
Have a go at researching an artist and creating your own piece of art. Have fun!
