Letters to those we love and much more
One of our home learning tasks this week was to write a note, letter or postcard to someone. A purpose for writing is so important and the writing is always great when it is for a real audience.
We also loved this video book review.
The maths learning has been all about money. Playing shops is a fun way to learn about this – great work, everyone!
And finally, try to watch this without a tear in your eye…

1.Use your story map to retell the story to somebody at home.
You can use the actions below to help you.
5 Cheeky Monkeys
Today, we thought that you might like to join in with one of the songs that we enjoy singing in Nursery. It’s about five cheeky little monkeys… Can you guess which song it is? Click on the photo to download our video and sing along with all of us at home. Let us know if there are any problems viewing it.
We hope you enjoyed seeing everybody again; we always love to see your photographs and videos so keep sending them in. As we mentioned in a previous post, Miss Backhouse is safe and well; she just isn’t able to take part in recording videos.
If you enjoyed the rhyme, there’s another version with the lyrics on this website. You might enjoy making some stick puppets and acting out the rhyme too. Remember to send us a photo or video to our email – scholesf1@spherefederation.org.
28 April 2020: Hall of (home learning) Fame
Thank you to Lleyton for sending his writing to me this morning. I’m really impressed with the effort that you’ve put in. You have used a range of sentence starters and your vocabulary is good – well done.

Phonics
Maths (subtraction)
1.Count backwards from 20 using the song.
Oh no! The song seems to have forgotten the number 0! We talk lots about the number 0 being nothing but still being a number. Try to add the number 0 when singing the song.
2.Solve number problems.
Parents: if needed, your child could use objects at home to help when counting.
- There are 6 ducks in the water. 4 got out of the water. How many are left in the water?
There are 6 ducks in the water. Some ducks got out of the water. Now there are only half left in the water. How many ducks got out of the water? How many are left?
- I had 8 chicken nuggets. I ate 3. How many do I have left?
I had 8 chicken nuggets. I ate some and have 5 left. How many did I eat?
- There are 6 people in our house. 3 people left and went to the shop. How many people are in the house now?
There are 5 people in the house. How many shoes will be by the door? Try to count in 2’s to find the answer when counting the pairs of shoes.
Challenge: Try the red number problems instead.

Book of the week: The tiger who came to tea
1.Listen to the story of the week.
2.Draw a story map of the story.
Parents: Here is an example of a story map.
Writing reminder
Remember, it is okay for things to be spelt phonetically. It is important your child grows into an independent learner. Encouraging your child to write the words as they sound rather than always spelling correctly is important. It encourages your child to use their own skills – rather than copy from an adult.
It is important you do not let your child simply copy your writing. They need to use their phonics skills to write. Here is an example of a child’s writing in Foundation 2.
It’s all about the money, money!
We’ve had some fabulous emails about the home learning today. Everyone has been positive about the video lessons that the teachers are starting to make. Watch out for more as the week goes on.
We’ve seen some super learning about money. Counting and knowing how much money you have is a very important life skill!
We also have a budding radio presenter too. Listen to her awesome presenting skills.
The notes and letters are lovely too. Keeping in touch is so important at this difficult time.
Home learning
I have received so many pictures and messages from you today sharing your home learning so far this week.
27 April 2020: Hall of (home learning) Fame
Thank you to Lily who has sent me an abundance of photographs recently. She has clearly been very busy on her home learning tasks and it sounds like she enjoyed the challenges over Easter too. She had a go at the ‘Come Dine with me’ challenge. Well done!
A message from your friends!
We received a lovely email from some of the Foundation 2 children.
It was great to see so many familiar faces and to see that you are all safe and happy at home. A great message to share too. Thank you Foundation 2 you have put a smile on all of your teachers faces today!
