Chick, chick, chicken…

Posted on Friday 27 March 2020 by Reception Team

Here’s a quick up-date on our chicks. We have 7 chicks that have hatched and they’re all now happily keeping warm under the brooder. You may remember that one of the chicks was taking a very long time to break out of its shell. With a little bit of help, it broke free and spent an extra 24 hours in the incubator whilst its feathers dried. It has now been moved to join the rest of its friends.

Some of the chicks are just beginning to grow feathers on their wings. These look different to the fluffy down. Can you see them in the photograph?

The chicks are getting bigger everyday, in fact, they can now jump on top of the brooder and one managed to escape! We’re going to move them into a bigger space today so that they have more room to run around. They’re also very fast; Mrs Long has been struggling to catch them!

Home Learning and family fun

Thank you to those children that have been sending us details of your family fun and home learning. Here are a few of your chick drawings; we love their long legs and fluffy feathers.  It’s also great to see you’re enjoying some sunshine too.

Day 4 of your home learning pack

Phonics

Did you play snakes and ladders today? Was your child able to spot any digraphs and trigraphs? MrThorne has some engaging and informative videos about digraphs and trigraphs.

The snakes and ladders games are from an educational resource website called Twinkl. Twinkl are offering parents and carers free access to thousands of resources, so you can select your own activities based on your child’s interests too.

“Setting this up is really easy to do – go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS”

Maths

How did you find making number stories for your child? Here are some ideas of number problems you could ask your child.

Literacy

Did you read todays story? The children have really enjoyed talking about what will happen to the eggs in our classroom. Can your child tell you the life cycle of a chicken? Please email us your child’s comments.

Good morning 5/6 S

Posted on Thursday 26 March 2020 by Mrs Hogarth

Good morning everybody!

I hope you all had a good nights sleep and that you’re looking forward to another day of home learning.

Today I am setting you a challenge. I want as many of you as possible to email me to let me know how you are getting on. I’m missing our class chats and giggles together. In your emails though, I want you to tell me about one of the best things that you’ve done whilst at home, since we finished school. I want to know how you are getting on with your home learning and also the yummiest thing you have eaten recently. We are no longer able to have our chats about food, so we will have to do it via email instead. I accidentally ate a Cadbury’s Creme Egg last night (other eggs are available). It was yummy! Feel free to send me any pics of what you are up to- it’s nice to see your smiling faces. I’ve already seen a few photos and it has really made me smile.

Anyway, I hope to hear from you later. Have a great day and keep smiling.

How are you?

Posted on Thursday 26 March 2020 by Mr Lindsay

Hello Year 5/6. Some of you may have already forgotten what day it is. Others might still be wearing the same pyjamas from Friday. And I’m guessing a few of you have run out of things to clean, sort and generally order – can’t just be Mrs Hogarth.

Whatever you’ve been doing to pass the time, we’d like to hear from you. Don’t forget to email your teacher and let them know what games or learning you’ve enjoyed so far. With your consent, We’ll share your news on our class news page.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Super learning at home

We’ve heard from a few people about how they’re getting on at home. Thank you for the questions, messages and photos. We are enjoying seeing what you are up to. Here is some fabulous learning that has been done at home!

A message from some of your teachers…

Posted on Wednesday 25 March 2020 by Reception team

We just wanted to say…

During this uncertain time, technology is a great way to communicate with those people you miss. Can your child send a video message to somebody? It could be to us, a friend or a family member.

A little message from Mr Catherall & Mr Freeman

Posted on Wednesday 25 March 2020 by Mr Catherall

Hey guys

A note from me…

Mr C here. I hope you’re all well and managing to enjoy this strange time. You’ll all be super relived to hear that I have been managing to fill my time as I said I would. I’ve been keeping fit  and learning a new language. I’ll soon be a French wizard as well as a maths wizard/genius! Although, it’s pretty tricky. All I can say at the moment is ‘You are a cat.’ I’m not sure how far that would get me if I went to France on holiday – I’ll be resilient and keep going though.

You’ll also be relieved to here that I am still making plenty of amazingly funny jokes! My partner doesn’t seem to find many of them funny either but I still think it’s you guys that have the problem not me!

Anyway, it’s nice to speak to you and I’d love to hear from all of you. Email me any questions or let me know how you’re getting on with your learning. When I hear from people it really makes me happy.

Keep up with your learning activities, stay active and make sure you are doing all you can to make sure you, and everyone else, is staying happy and healthy! And, most importantly, be nice! You’re all awesome so I’m sure your spreading the happiness already.

Missing you all! Mr C

And a note from Mr Freeman…

Hello Amigos! Mr Freeman here, and yes I am speaking Spanish all the time now – Duo Lingo is great. I don’t know about you be I have complete jelly legs from Joe Wicks morning PE sessions! I hope you’re all joining in and staying active, too.

I’m keeping in touch with my family and friends through an app that means you can video call multiple friends at the same time and play games together. It’s great to say hello to others, particularly if you need a boost from your friends.

I am missing school and being able to teach you wonderful people every day – I look forward to everything going back to normal. If you need questions or advice, please email – it makes us teachers happy knowing that we can help!

I’m looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Mr Freeman

Meet our fluffy, little chicks!

Posted on Wednesday 25 March 2020 by Reception Team

Thank you for your emails; it’s great to keep in touch and find out how you’re all getting on at home. We’re pleased to hear that some of you have enjoyed joining in with the activities so far. Please remember, whilst at Nursery, children learn through play. We try to make things as fun as we can so please don’t worry about children sitting down to do activities for long periods of time.

Today’s chick news
This morning, we moved three of the chicks into the chicken brooder to give them more space and to keep them warm. They’ve also got some food and water too.

Thank you for sending us your suggestions for names. We’d like you to meet Chirpy and Chippy and their friend, Pecky.  Joe, named after the nation’s current favourite PE teacher, is still drying his feathers in the incubator!

We still have one chick in the incubator that has begun to chip away at its shell but it’s taking a long time!

If you’ve drawn any pictures of our chicks, please take a photo of them and send them in.  Make sure you listen and sing along to  Chick, chick, chicken!
