04 May 2020: Home Learning
Good morning.
I have already been inundated with messages and photographs of the learning that 5/6 S have been doing. It’s so great that you are all keeping in touch and letting me know what you are getting up to.
Lilia has sent me the art work that she and her mum did. They were listening to Kelly Clarkson’s, Stronger, at the time. I wonder who’s is the best – what do you think?

Ava has been working hard on her music lesson also and she has produced this great scratch picture. I love it!

I was very pleased to hear from William over the weekend. He sounds like he has been very busy entertaining himself during lockdown. He told me he has built campfires, slept in the caravan in the garden and built two sheds! He will be coming back to school exhausted! He has had some new additions to the family too – his family are now the proud owner of some chickens. Some of them look huge!

Barry the Fish with Fingers
Good morning, Nursery! We hope that you all had a good weekend and found something fun to do. Mrs Beesley enjoyed reading a bit more of her favourite book and Mrs Long helped to bake a rainbow cake. What was your favourite part of the weekend? Did you have video call to say hello to any of your family and friends? It’s great to keep in touch with each other.
This week’s story will be another one of our favourites (we have so many!). It’s called ‘Barry the Fish with Fingers‘ by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet.
Watch it using the link, or if you have it at home, read it together. Ferdie and Fern enjoyed sharing the story earlier.

Here are some activities that you can try that are linked to the story.
Health and self-care – Can you practice putting on your gloves? We do this in nursery when we are going outside. Remember to wiggle your fingers into each finger space. There are 5 on each hand. Can you count them?
Creative – Finger painting – If you have paint at home you can practice some finger painting. Cut out the shape of a fish and fill it with a colourful finger paint patterns. How many colours will you use?
Sing together – The fish in the ocean. We enjoy singing this at nursery, try it at home.
Mathematics – Draw around your own hand or your child’s and cut it out. How many fingers can you see ? Fold down the fingers one at a time and ask your child to count how many now. Use more than one hand to extend to 10.
‘Under the sea’ counting game – Visit Topmarks and you will get onto the website home page. Select ‘Early Years’ and there are lots of interactive counting activities to play, including this underwater counting game.
Get active – Join in with the finger song and get active.
Watch – Do you like fishcakes ? Have you ever wondered how fish cakes are made. What do you think the ingredients are ? Maddie finds out here.
We are enjoying seeing your photos, but just an email would be great. Our email address is scholesf1@spherefederation.org. We would love to hear about what you have been doing. Also, we are happy to answer any of your questions too. Remember to visit our Class News Page again on Wednesday and Friday for more updates and activities. (Posts are also now available to view the night before from 7 o’clock.)
Have fun!

We have had lots of photos and emails this week, thank you! The money task has been very popular, playing shops is a great way to use addition and subtraction in real life; adding items together and working out change. Younger and older siblings have also joined in. Writing messages to each other is also a great way to stay connected – some were even delivered, spreading happiness all around!

Art/music: Hall of Home Learning Fame
Today, we asked children to create a piece of art based on some music. Leiyah chose Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Year 5,6 Quiz of the Week!
This week, we’ve decided to end the week with a little bit of fun. So, we’ve made a video quiz of the week. Check it out here.
It’s a mix of general knowledge, a recap of some previous learning and a bit of fun! We’re hoping you’ll play along as a family, or maybe against other families and will enjoy 10 mins of trivia and silliness.
If you like it, get in touch and we’ll do a weekly edition published every Friday.
Enjoy!

If you want a challenge, I wrote this article with a clear idea in my head about my audience (who I’m aiming it at) and purpose. What was the purpose of this article? Did it work? How did my audience affect the style I wrote it? Would I write the same if this was a more srious article? Or, aimed at people I didn’t know?
*Terms and conditions: you must send a picture to be entered into the Hall of (home learning) Fame. Winners will be posted on this section of the website and will receive their prize as soon as they read it. The prize is a virtual high five from the Year 5,6 team.
