Living and Learning : ‘out and about in the community’ competition winners
Well done to the winners of the ‘out and about in the community’ competition!
Living and Learning : Takeover Day
The final day of our ‘Community’ themed week ended with children running Golden Assembly. They did a great job!
Home Link – Christmas story
We love to listen to stories in Nursery, whether they are stories that we have heard lots of times or new ones.
Do you have a favourite Christmas story?
We’d love to hear it in Nursery. Please bring your favourite Christmas story book into Nursery and we’ll enjoy reading it at story time throughout the week. (Please remember to write your name in it.)
Living and Learning: Community Week
This week our Living and Learning statement was I respect my community and other communities.
As part of our community week, we have learned more about the World Peace Flame being in Scholes village and have helped raise funds to keep the flame burning by producing cards that could be sold in the village.
We all read The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfister. We thought about our identity in the community and how it is important to always be kind. We learned that by sharing we can be part of the community and not feel sad and lonely like The Rainbow Fish.
Finally, today we let the children take over parts of our school day. Some children did a wonderful job of leading dancing in our PE lesson. Others led the assembly to read out who had earned a certificate in golden assembly.
It was lovely to see all the children dressed in clothes that represented their identity today. We saw outfits ranging from go-kart racers to princesses.
Takeover Day
Year 5/6S did an amazing job during Takeover Day. We enjoyed a range of lessons including reading, writing and maths. Some children took on the role of the teacher. They made their own resources and slides for the Clevertouch screen- I was very impressed! Other children took on responsibilities such as taking the register, being a teaching assistant and giving out rewards. Well done to all the children who have spent the week planning their lessons- they’ve put a lot of effort in and worked through their lunchtimes. I am very proud of them. It was also great to see the children dress in clothes that reflect who they are as a person.
Living and Learning: School Charity
Thank you to our Cancer research representative who came to accept our cheque for a staggering £1986.24 this week.
A huge “Well done!” to everybody who helped fund raise the money last year, whether it was buying an ice-pop, baking buns or donating to sponsored events.
We are very proud of our achievements! We look forward to finding out who will be our new school charity for this year.
Living and Learning- Community Week
This week we have been learning all about our community. The children have produced identity circles in which they identified things that are important to them, such as family and friends. They drew maps of important places, and places they regularly visit. We had visits from local police officers and Stella Walsh from the Parish Council, who explained their work in the local community.
More rhyming fun!
Has your child been singing more rhymes this week? We hope so!
‘The Wheels on the Bus’ has been very popular and has provided lots of mathematical opportunities too. Children have been counting people on to the bus, taking them off again and working out how many spaces were left and how many more passengers could get on.
In our creative area, we’ve continued to explore printing and patterns that we can make. We used Duplo bricks to make a wall for Humpty Dumpty to sit on. We talked about the shapes that the bricks made when we printed with them. Is it a rectangle, square or lots of little circles?
In our maths area, we sang ‘Twinkle Twinkle’ and talked about the different stars. Children lined them up to count them and were also able to sort them by size (big, small), colour (gold, silver) and appearance (shiny, dull).
‘Incy Wincy Spider’ had a great time in the water tray. There was lots of problem solving going on as children worked out how to get the spiders to move down the guttering. They used different containers to re-create the rain to help ‘wash the spider out’.
Christmas costumes
Please send in your child’s costume by Friday 29 November. Remember to write your child’s name on all items and on the outside of the bag. Thank you for your support. We’re looking forward to seeing all of the children in their costumes!
Trip to the theatre : Sleeping Beauty
What a fantastic day out we had today! The children represented school brilliantly and had a whale of a time. Oh yes we did! We will be using our experiences to do lots of writing. Thank you to all the adults who volunteered to help – we can’t do things like this without you.
