Are you beautiful?

Posted on Saturday 31 March 2018 by Mrs Latham

Our Talk Time homework (linked to our Living and Learning theme) produced some super discussions about what is beautiful.

‘I think elephants are beautiful.’

‘Beautiful is not just about how you look. You can be beautiful if you are nice, clever or generous.’

‘Beautiful means different things to different people.’

‘Nature is beautiful, like wild animals and pets, and particularly snails shells.’

Practical maths

Posted on Saturday 31 March 2018 by Mrs Latham

We use concrete objects and equipment whenever possible to ensure children can see numbers and maths concepts. This is based on the CPA approach (concrete, pictorial, abstract) for maths mastery.

The Bee Musical

Posted on Thursday 29 March 2018 by Mrs Lake

This week, we’ve enjoyed two fantastic performances of our Bee Musical production. We’re sure you’ll agree the children have done a great job and we’re very proud of their performances. Every child tried their best and learnt songs, dances and lines.

Thank you for coming to watch the children. We hope you enjoyed the show.

Thank you for your donations to our school charity: The Donkey Sanctuary.

After a busy term in Year 3 and 4, it’s time now to enjoy the Easter holiday with family and friends. See you back at school on 16 April 2018!

The Guard Bees did a great job protecting the Queen Bee.

Well done to some of the big stars of the show: Grumble Bee, The Tumble bees, The Jumble Bees, Mr MouseMr and Mrs Waxworth, Dennis and Business Bee.

The ‘Bee Team’

The ‘Drone Bees’

The Farmer Bees and Little Bees.

The Narrators and Newsreader learnt some very long lines and read them perfectly. Well done!

The Townspeople came up with some great ideas to solve the bee crisis.

Year 2 and Year 6 assessments

Posted on Thursday 29 March 2018 by Mr Roundtree

The STA has published an information leaflet and two videos for parents/carers of children in Year 2 and Year 6 about national curriculum assessments. The purpose of these materials is to help you understand more about the end of key stage assessments that will be administered in primary schools in May. (The end of Key Stage 1 is Year 2; the end of Key Stage 2 is Year 6.)

The materials provide basic information about the purpose and format of the tests, how parents can best support their children and how results will be reported.

Read the leaflet.

Watch the videos.

Living and Learning: I can think about body image.

Posted on Wednesday 28 March 2018 by

This week, we’ve been considering what makes people special. Is it what someone looks like? Or their qualities?

Does someone’s appearance change how we view them? Does appearance tell us everything about the persons qualities? How can you find out what makes people special?

The children had some very serious and incitful discussions about how and what you can change about your image. Ask your child to relay the discussion. They might have some questions for you about body image.

Posted on Wednesday 28 March 2018 by Miss Hague

Our Living and Learning statement this week is I recognise my talents. We’ve talked about what a talent is and shared our own with the class.  The children enjoyed showing their talents during a mini talent show.

‘My talent is drawing.’

‘My talent is dancing.’

‘My talent is dancing.’

‘My talent is playing games.’

‘My talent is phonics.’

5,6F: Leeds University workshops

Posted on Wednesday 28 March 2018 by

On Tuesday, Year 5/6 had the postponed (due to snow) ‘life forces’ science workshops. Two medical students from Leeds University visited with bags full of props and exciting activities for us all to take part in. One of the workshops was called ‘Survive and thrive’. The other ‘ Heart in action’. They were both varied and exciting! Ask the children to explain what they were learning in the photos below.

5,6M: Leeds University workshops

Posted on Wednesday 28 March 2018 by Mr Lindsay

Yesterday, children had two science workshops delivered by students from Leeds University. The workshops helped consolidate our learning on the human body. One workshop focused on the circulatory system and the other on what humans need to survive.

You might want to try making your own model diaphragm. You’ll need a few items to help construct one:

  • a plastic cup
  • a straw
  • two balloons
  • a blob of Blu Tack
  • an elastic band

A request for photos

Posted on Tuesday 27 March 2018 by Reception team

Writing that is interest-led and purposeful can engage your child in meaningful writing experiences. After the Easter holidays, we’ll be asking your child to write about their Easter experiences. This is similar to a Monday where your child writes about their weekend. To help your child remember and motivate them to write please email a photo of your child during the Easter holidays.

We’ll print these and put them in the writing area for your child to write about. We often put photos of the children in the writing area – the children really enjoy writing about themselves!

Outdoor learning

Posted on Monday 26 March 2018 by Mrs Latham

All year 1 and 2 classes were excited to take a look at the newly renovated pond and wildlife area. We believe there are many benefits from taking learning outside and the English Outdoor Council agree, stating that exposure to the natural environment is beneficial to human health by ‘enhancing personal and social communication skills, increasing physical health, enhancing mental and spiritual health and enhancing spiritual, sensory, and aesthetic awareness.’

We counted flies, trees, daffodils and other natural features to learn how to make tally charts and count in fives.

You can help at home by counting things around your house or garden and record the results using a tally chart.
