Living & Learning – Anti-Bullying Week
Anti-Bullying Week 2023 is coordinated in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by the Anti-Bullying Alliance. This year it has the theme ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’ and took place from Monday 13th to Friday 17th November. The week kicked off with Odd Socks Day on Monday 13th November, where adults and children wore odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique.
The theme this year was ‘Make A Noise About Bullying’ and came about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance . Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes.
On Monday afternoon we came off our usual timetable to learn about what bullying is, the effects of bullying and how we can put a stop to it. We are really clear on the acronyms for bullying below:
What is bullying –
Several
Times
On
Purpose
How can we stop bullying –
Start
Telling
Other
People
At home you could ask your child if they can tell you the two acronyms for bullying and what they are!
Art – topic learning
We are really enjoying our art topic – learning about the work of Paul Klee and Leonardo da Vinci. We have looked closely at their paintings and found similarities and differences. We are learning to share our opinions about the colours, shapes and patterns they use.
REMEMBER our school trip to The Hepworth Wakefield gallery is next Tuesday, 21 November.
Living and Learning – Me and my money
Our themed week was last week but visitors from HSBC couldn’t come last week. They came to talk to the year 1 and 2 classes about how trade, bartering and money has changed over time. They also talked to us about the value of notes.
Help at home by identifying and sorting coins and notes. Make different amounts in a variety of ways. How many ways can you make 10p?
Science – you rock!
This week in Science, Ks1 are looking at a variety of rocks. We know that rocks can be found in many different places and that rocks have many different properties.
We used words like rough, smooth, heavy and light to describe the rocks and created some posters on our tables.

We handled the rocks to feel their texture. We also organised them in a few different ways. This helped us to sort and classify.
We sorted the rocks from smallest to biggest and lightest (colour) to darkest in 2C.

PE – gymnastics
Year 1 and 2 are doing gymnastics in our PE lessons this half term. We’ll learn different ways of moving (high, low, jumps), gymnastic positions (tuck, pike, straddle) and sequencing movements. We will also be using the large apparatus. Below are some pictures of 1,2B’s gymnastic lessons.
Awesome adjective day!
We had a fabulous day learning about word classes today and, in particular, adjectives.
We all dressed up as an adjective, learnt a song about adjectives and made some interesting expanded noun phrases.
Help at home by talking about your favourite adjectives. Mrs Latham’s is discombobulated, Mr Goodwin’s is fabulous, Mrs Brown’s is bulbous and Miss Young’s is flabbergasted!
Maths stay and learn- 15.11.23
Who’s ready for our second stay and learn session? We are!
Join us at 9am tomorrow morning (going through the school office after drop-off)
You will be watching a short lesson, enjoying some maths activities with your child and finishing with a short presentation by the class teachers.
See you there!

Odd socks day
Yesterday our school marked anti-bullying day by wearing odd socks to school. We did this to show that we are all different.

In class, we talked about the definition of bullying and what sort of things bullying includes.
Bullying is Several Times On Purpose.
We also spoke about what we should do if we think we are being bullied.
If we think we or anyone else is being bullied we should Start Telling Other People.

Odd sock day
As part of anti-bullying day, the children (and adults) came to school wearing odd socks. This is to raise awareness of bullying and what can be done about it. The socks represent that we are all different and that’s ok – we should embrace our differences and celebrate them. We talked about the different types of bullying, including online behaviours and where to get help if needed – trusted adults, Childline.
