6 March 2020: Easter Activities

Posted on Monday 06 April 2020 by Reception team

Happy Easter!

We know that it’s the Easter break, but in these unprecedented times we thought that we’d continue to post some ideas of  activities that you can do at home, if you choose to do so. Some of these are Easter related and others are ideas that you can continue after the Easter break.

This will be the only post for the two week Easter holidays. During this time, you can still send emails, although we may not respond as quickly as we have been doing.

The most important message this Easter is to have fun as a family. Read together, play outside, bake, garden, watch a movie, sing and dance. Make the most of this time together.

Day 10 of your home learning pack

Music time!

Did your child make their own actions to the spring song? Can your child see any signs of spring in the garden?

Maths

Doubling! When teaching your children to double we talk about adding the same amount again. There is a fun doubles song your child may enjoy singing.

Letter formation

Has your child been singing the letter formation ditty’s whilst writing? Letters that are often difficult are s,b,d,e and a. Encourage your child to practise these.

Day 9 of your home learning pack

Phonics

Did your child enjoy reading the phoneme or tricky word spotter story today? If so, there are plenty more on Twinkl. Just search ‘Story spotters Phase 3’.

Twinkl are offering parents and carers free access to thousands of resources, so you can select your own activities based on your child’s interests too.

“Setting this up is really easy to do – go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS”

Maths

Did your child find the missing numbers?

In Foundation 2, we focus on numbers to twenty throughout the year to get a depth of understanding of what the numbers really mean.

Literacy

Was your child able to draw a story map? Please email photos or comments. Here is an example of what your child’s story map may look like.

Wake Up Shake Up (WUSU) playlist

Posted on Wednesday 01 April 2020 by Mrs Latham

A few children seem to be missing our daily WUSU sessions. We have had a lot of email requests for videos that children can dance along to (there is one already on the Year 1 & 2 Class News page). Here is the playlist if you would like to dance along to your favourites. There are more videos in the pipeline…watch this space!

Day 8 of your home learning pack

Phonics

Writing captions or sentences. Before your child puts pen to paper encourage your child to say the sentence and count the words in the sentence – this is a good chance to talk about where the finger spaces would go. Once they have done this, they are ready to write! Encourage your child to then check their writing.

Maths

Was your child able to complete the repeating pattern? You could make your own patterns using objects at home. We had a go too – can your child tell you how to continue the pattern we have made?

Literacy

Did your child write a book review? Please email photos or comments.

Day 7 of your home learning pack

Phonics

How did your child find writing the phonemes? We focus on pronouncing the phonemes with a ‘pure’ sound. For example, ‘ssss not suh’ and ‘ch not chuh’. Here are some videos on phoneme pronunciation.

Phase 2

Phase 3 – please note, the pronunciation of ‘z’ is American so incorrect for your child. All other phonemes are pronounced correctly.

Maths

How did your child find the teens numbers activity? Number blocks are great short videos for helping understand numbers.

Literacy

Tricky word detectives! How many tricky words did your child find? The tricky word songs are a great way to support your child when learning to read and write tricky words.

Phase 2 tricky words

Phase 3 tricky words

Please email to let us know how your child’s home learning journey is going.

Posted on Monday 30 March 2020 by Reception team

If your child is a Writing Warrior and would like to continue to complete the home-learning missions we can help!

We have been given Wiz’s top secret email address and will be able to email any missions completed to him. Wiz will then be able to send a new mission to your child! Just email us (Scholesf2@spherefederation.org) your child’s completed mission. We will then pass this onto Wiz and email back his message and a new mission.
