Living and Learning : Body Image

Posted on Friday 29 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

We have been learning about body image over the last few weeks in our Living and Learning lessons. We have discussed how we view ourselves and what makes us ‘us’. This also led to conversations about protected characteristics and equality.

Super skippers

Posted on Friday 29 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

Skipping School have visited again today. Jodi ran two sessions this morning for the year 2 children to prepare for an upcoming competition. The whole school are still enjoying skipping and we have some more ropes for sale in the office.

The Year 1 children were also working on their skipping skills, counting how many skips they could do and recording it on the 100 square outside.

Pop-up art gallery – celebrating the end of our arty Big Topic

Posted on Tuesday 26 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

Thank you to all the parents and carers who came to the pop-up art gallery. The children have been working really hard over the last few weeks and were very excited about seeing their work on display. We asked for donations to our school charity, Cancer Research, in exchange for the children’s art work, raising £41.56.  Lots of adults commented on how much they enjoyed the event.

What a lovely idea!

Thank you. It is great being able to come into school and see the children’s work.

Sharing our learning – Topic Review session

Posted on Monday 25 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

Thank you to all our parents and carers who came to the Topic Review session this afternoon. The children love sharing their learning with adults and enjoyed showing what they have learnt in our Topic Review Quiz.

If you were unable to attend this afternoon, why not try the quiz at home?

What a wonderful homework review we enjoyed this week! We were treated to gymnastics, dance, bike riding, athletics, basketball, football, fitness skills, dog training, art, music, singing, book-making and skating – to name just a few. The children were excited to show off their talents in our usual homework review session. Thank you for the video emails and music CDs. We cannot access memory sticks on school computers. Please use the email addresses below for any future digital homework.

Living and learning – democracy in action

Posted on Friday 22 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

We have recently finished reading Five on a Treasure Island by Enid Blyton, which the children all enjoyed immensely. We have been enjoying picture books and poetry at storytime recently but several children have asked when we are starting our next class novel.

I like a chapter book because then you can look forward to hearing the next part every day!

To ensure the book was chosen democratically, every child could vote for the one they would like next. We have ordered the books and will be starting Dear Teddy Robinson after the Easter holidays.

Dancing raisins? Yes, it’s our science lesson!

Posted on Friday 15 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

This week, we were learning about scientific processes – particularly predicting. Children were asked if they thought the type of liquid (still or fizzy water) would affect if a raisin floated or sank. Predicting in science is all about a ‘thinking guess’ and using what you know to help you.

I think the bubbles in the fizzy water will make the raisin float.

I think the raisins will sink because they are small.

I think the raisins will turn back into grapes.

The children observed how the raisins sank straight to the bottom in the still water. In the fizzy water, the raisins ‘danced’ up and down and they noticed how the bubbles stuck to the raisins and pushed them up.

Why not have a try at home? Does it work with other objects?

Amazing art

Posted on Friday 15 March 2019 by Mrs Latham

This week children had the opportunity to explore tone. They added white or black to a colour to make it lighter or darker. Don’t forget to come along to our Pop-Up Art Gallery on Tuesday 26 March at 3.30pm to view and ‘purchase’ your child’s art work.
