The homework this week is creative and should be returned Thursday 08 March.

I can create a Top Trump fact file for an animal.

This can be :

  • An imaginary creature
  • Your favourite animal
  • An endangered animal

Use the template provided to create your own Top Trump animal. Use the headings: size, weight, speed, deadliness and weapons and rate the animal out of 100 for each of these. Use the space to write a fact about your animal. If you’d like to produce more information about your chosen animal, then use a page in your homework book.

We’re looking forward to playing Top Trumps next week!

Year 6 homework will be Practice makes Perfect. We’ve given the children three pages in their CGP Maths Revision book and three in the CGP English Revision book. They need to be completed by Monday (Maths) and Tuesday (English).

Year 5 homework will also be Practice makes Perfect. Research and choose an appropriate poem about the snowy weather. Write it in your homework book (in your best joined handwriting). Be prepared to read, or recite it, to your classmates.

Our times tables focus this week will be the 6 times table (up to 6 x 12) and including division facts.

Practise counting forwards, backwards, starting from zero and then starting from a multiple, and don’t forget the traditional way to support your child: a couple of mock tests to see how well your child knows their tables!

This week’s homework is Creative.

I can find, show and tell number stories.

You could find number stories around your house or outside. Draw a picture or take a photograph of the number story, writing the related number sentences to accompany it. There are some examples below.

I have 2 cats. Each cat has 4 legs.

  • 4 + 4 = 8.
  • Double 4 is eight.
  • Half of 8 is 4.
  • 2 x 4 = 8

My fence has 13 slats in each panel. There are 4 panels.

  • 13 + 13 + 13 + 13 = 52
  • 13 x 4 = 52

I made 12 cupcakes. I ate 3 of them.

  • 12 – 3 = 9
  • 9 = 12 – 3
  • 3 + 9 = 12

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect.

All classes are working hard on their recall of key maths facts. A copy can be found on the Learn More/Help My Child/Addition Facts guide section of the website. We’ve been trying to complete as many as we can against the clock. See how many you can do in two minutes. Check how many you got right then continue to work through the others, if you have any left.
