Spelling: Half Term 5

This half-term, our spellings are linked to the rules and strategies we’ll be learning in class:

• alternative ways to write the ‘sh’ sound (ch, ss, ti, s)
• alternative ways to write the ‘or’ sound
• adding prefixes: in, im
• adding prefixes: inter, anti, super
• spelling patterns: ture, sure
• homophones (words that sound the same but are spelled differently)

Each Friday, you’ll be tested on 8 of the words from the list below.

Spellings for Testing Thursday 02 April

Please help your child to learn their spellings.

Year 1: Saturday, Sunday, January, February, March

Year 2: plant, poor, pretty, prove, should, steak, sugar, sure, told, water

Here are the spellings that KS1 classes have begun learning since Monday 05 in school. Please help your child to learn them at home and be ready for their spelling test on Friday 16 January. We put our spelling tests in the back of our writing books and enjoy looking at our progress.

Please use a method to learn that is effective with your child.

An idea might be:

Write spellings with a shape around to show where the ascenders and descenders are. This links to our handwriting focus for Year 2’s.
