Living and Learning: STOP bullying

This week, our Living and Leaning statement was I know how to STOP bullying.

All week we have discussed what STOP means in our school definition of bullying. We know that STOP means two things. Several Times on Purpose and Start Telling Other People. All the children knew who to tell if they experience bullying.

In support of anti-bullying week, on Tuesday, we took part in Odd Socks Day. It is a great opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!  It also helps raise the awareness of bullying.

Living and Learning: Apologising

This week’s Living and Learning statement is:

I apologise when I need to.

This week, Year 1 and 2 children have discussed the importance of apologising when they need to.  We talked about a time when we’ve apologised and how it made the person feel.

Sometimes, accidents happen. We discussed how it is important to say sorry  to make the other person know you didn’t do it on purpose. This is often the first step to make the other person feel better, especially if your mistake made them feel sad or hurt.

Having good manners is respectful. Recognising you have done something wrong and then apologising shows you are being respectful and following our school rules.

Living and Learning

This week the children have been thinking about how to show they’re ready to learn. Firstly they set some ground rules that would be used in each lesson- they felt this was very important. In groups the children came up with different ways they can show that they are ready to learn.

‘Eyes on the speaker.’

‘Not interrupting when others are speaking.’

They also discussed how to respond in a positive way to feedback in school, whether this was linked to learning or their behaviour. A good start to the year!

Living and learning

5/6 SK discussed telling the truth this week. They talked about how they felt when someone isn’t honest with them.

“I’d feel let down.”

“I’d be upset.”

They looked at different scenarios and discussed whether telling the truth would be easy or hard in these situations. They decided that telling lies weakens a friendship and saying sorry, and showing we are sorry we’re both important in repairing a relationship.

Wetherby High Taster Day

The Year 5’s got to experience a wonderful day at Wetherby High School. They took part in a range of lessons and met lots of the staff and pupils. PE gave the children the opportunity to play Basketball, Science allowed them to carry out experiments that included different substances and even explosions! They even got to taste the canteen food. They were praised by the staff for their lovely manners throughout the day- well done!

Money Matters

As part of our Money Matters week, year 5 have been detectives this week, investigating fraud. They worked in teams to scrutinise evidence and find clues in order to solve fraudulent activity. They successfully solved the crime- well done!

Triathlon Fun!

The Year 5’s had an amazing morning participating in the Brownlee Foundation Triathlon at John Smeaton. After the initial challenge of putting a bright orange swimming cap on, the children embarked on the race! They showed great determination and team spirit, with a dash of perseverance. They were rewarded with an amazing medal at the end. Well done!

Living and Learning

Year 5 and 6 have been discussing the things they are good at. They had to identify how they were a good friend, their special talents and how they are a good citizen. They came up with some great qualities.

“I have worked hard to improve my self-confidence.”

” I am a good citizen because I recycle.”

“I am really good at feeling empathy for others.”
