Children in year 1 and 2 have a daily hong so lesson where they learn about reading and spelling. Today, the year 2s went in the hall and worked on their ‘tricky words’ whilst being active.

Hoot hoot and roaaaar!

Posted on Friday 11 October 2019 by Reception Team

As we have previously posted, we’re always looking to follow children’s interests in Nursery as children learn best when they are engaged.  We seem to have lots of children that like ‘owls’ at the moment so we’re looking forward to developing this interest further. Next week, we will read some owl stories, including ‘Owl Babies’ and learn more about nocturnal animals. Watch this space to see what the children enjoy and where our learning takes us!

Children also continue to love playing with the jungle animals in our small world area and like to sing and move to ‘Walking through the jungle‘ in our movement area.

Reminders

  • Now that transition sessions have finished, children must arrive at Nursery before 9am. If you arrive after 9am, please go to the main school office to be registered. Thank you for your cooperation.
  • Please put NAMES in shoes, wellies and coats (and everything else that can me taken off!). We have a few children with the same shoes and it is very difficult trying to match them to the correct owner! Thank you
  • Look out for the Parent/Carer consultation evening appointments. Please sign up for a convenient time to meet us.
  • We often buy small things to enhance our Nursery provision (eg pumpkins, playdough/baking ingredients) that the school budget doesn’t provide. If you are able to help out, please contribute 50p-£1 to our Nursery funds money box when you can. All donations are very gratefully received.

What are these bricks my child keeps talking about?

Posted on Friday 11 October 2019 by Reception team

This week, we’ve introduced your child to challenges. Challenging activities are around the classroom for your child to complete to earn a brick. The aim is to get a tower of bricks taller than five. Challenges include the learning we’re focusing on throughout the week – for example, writing our name. Ask your child what challenges they’ve done this week.

We talked about who had more and who had fewer bricks. If your child’s tower was more than five, your child will come home with a certificate!

Safeguarding – pedestrian safety and road safety

Posted on Thursday 10 October 2019 by Mrs Latham

All the year 1 and 2s took part in some superb pedestrian and road safety teaching from the Influencing Travel Behaviour Staff at Leeds City Council. We hope you agree how important these skills are for keeping our children safe and teaching them how to keep themselves safe.

Making our Treehouses

Posted on Wednesday 09 October 2019 by Mr Roundtree

And they’re off!

We set the children off on their practical activity this week of making their  treehouses out of wood.

We measured, sawed, glued, cut, stuck … and waited patiently.

We worked together …

Look how carefully we out our pieces together!

We took a safe risk … sawing is fun!

We concentrated hard. Hopefully, they’ll be ready for painting and decorating tomorrow.

Living and Learning

Posted on Wednesday 09 October 2019 by Mrs Hogarth

Year 5/6 thought about the 8Rs this week. With their peers, they discussed times in and out of school when they had used one or more of the 8 Rs. They then concentrated on which they had applied during their learning recently.
