08 June 2020: Home Learning

Hi everyone

We hope you all had a happy and healthy weekend. We hear that lots of you are getting back into the routine of home learning – that’s great. Don’t forget three other super important parts of thriving during times like these:

  1. Stay connected – get in touch with friends and family (or your teachers!) for a chat; you’ll all feel better after.
  2. Exercise – the weather isn’t great at the moment but there’s still plenty of ways to keep fit. Try going for a walk, a run, doing a circuit in your garden or join thousands of others for PE with Joe.
  3. Talk about your feelings – hands up if you’ve had a few ‘down days’. I know I have (and so have many others, too). That’s OK – in fact, it’s perfectly normal. One thing we all know we can do to help ourselves is to talk openly about it. Speak to adults at home or your friends. If you prefer, email us – we’d love to help!

05 June 2020: Home Learning

Hi again everyone

Well done on smashing your first week of home learning! It’s hard getting back into a routine but I hear that many of you have.

There’s still loads of people who haven’t been in touch for a while. We’d love it if you could give us an email so we can find out about all the great things you’ve been up to.

Here’s your home learning for today…

Y5 Maths

Friday’s lesson

Y6 Maths

Starter

Log into Times Tables Rockstar and brush up on your multiplication and division skills for 15 minutes.

This BBC bitesize lesson should remind you of how to convert a decimal into a fraction. Complete activity 1 and 2.

Y5,6 Reading

To finish of this week, you are going to create your own RIC questions and text.

Using your dream job, write a short extract (1 or 2 paragraphs) using the information you know about this job role from earlier in the week. Once you have written this, create 3 RIC questions to go along with your text for other people to answer. Here are some things you can include in your extract:

  • Job title/role
  • Uniform
  • Reasons for choosing this job as a career path
  • Why this is your dream job
  • Facts that you know about this role.

For your RIC questions, you do not need to do one of each (retrieval, inference, writer’s choice), if you wanted to do three retrieval questions, that is completely fine.

Please email your class teacher with your finished extract and RIC questions – we look forward to reading them!

04 June 2020: Home Learning

Hey everyone

We’re well into our first week back of home learning now. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and have managed to get back into some kind of routine – I know it’s really tricky but it’s also really important.

The weather the last couple of days hasn’t been as good as we’ve been used to. This means we might be stuck inside a little more than usual. Some of you might find it trickier to stay happy and healthy (physically, emotionally and mentally). That’s absolutely fine – we all have tricky days! One thing I’ve found that really helps me is to speak to people. Give someone from outside your household a call today (a friend of family member). You’ll help brighten up their day and you’ll feel great after, too.

Here’s your home learning for today…

Half-term Home Learning

Because this week is half-term, we’re taking a break from the usual daily home learning tasks (just like we did at Easter). Instead, we’ve prepared a menu of home learning activities that you might want to dip into this week – these are optional only, but you might want to encourage your child to have a go at being a quiz master, doing some up-cycling, presenting a cookery masterclass or any of the other activities.

Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a happy and healthy half-term.

20 May 2020: Home Learning

Hello again

Did you complete yesterday’s special mission? Did you connect with someone outside your home? If not, do it today!

In addition to your home learning, don’t forget that one of the most important things you could be doing at home is reading regularly; ideally, every day. If you’re looking for a book, I would recommend ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class‘.

Here’s your home learning for today – enjoy!

19 May 2020: Home Learning

Hi everyone

We hope you’re all happy and healthy. It’s been great to hear from so many of you about what you’re up to – don’t forget to keep in touch.

With that in mind, I’ve got a special mission for you today. I’d like you to make sure you speak to one person from outside of your house on the phone; this could be a friend, a family member, a neighbour, etc! I’m definitely finding that when I stay connected to my family and friends I feel much happier. I wonder if you’ll feel the same? Let me know.

Before we get in to our daily home learning tasks, here’s some spellings for you to learn:

accumulating            managing            surprising            calculating

acquiring                     analysing            deciding                debating

Use our super spelling strategies to help. Check out the ‘Help Your Child‘ section of our website for more ideas like these.

Here are your home learning tasks for today. Don’t forget to email your class teacher if you need any help.
