If you need a paper copy, please request one from your child’s class teacher. The link will be on your child’s Homework page.

Times tables

This week, you should focus on revisiting the 4 times tables. Make sure you have a very quick recall of the multiplication facts up to the 12th multiple. Link your knowledge to the number facts you know, for example 4 x 100 or 0.4 x 10. There will be a multiplication test on Friday 16th October.

5/6 S Certificate Celebration

Year 5/6 S have had a great week. The children have worked hard at creating a persuasive piece of writing, they’ve created classification keys about leaves and they have completed some comparative work about the UK and Bolivia. What a busy week!

This weeks certificate winners are…

For great learning…

Maisie- you have worked so hard to improve the presentation of your handwriting – well done!

For sport and physical activity…

Charlie H- for demonstrating excellent fielding skills in kickball this week – well done.

For living and learning…

Lily- you are a dedicated and hard working member of Year 6 and you are a great role model. Super!

Well done everyone!

Science – leaf classifying

Year 5 and 6 have continued to work on classification keys this week. They were looking at a range of leaves from British trees and plants and initially had to identify them. Following their discussion work, they then created their own classification keys using scientific questions, that other children could use to sort and identify leaves. The children did a great job of using their scientific vocabulary. We are now leaf experts!

Super Cereal Homework 5/6S

I’ve been blown away this week by the amazing homework that the children have created – they’ve certainly got their creative juices flowing. They have obviously enjoyed making and tasting their own cereal recipes – I got very hungry looking at all the photos. Thank you to all the parents for sending the homework via email – it’s great to know that you’re supporting the children with their learning at home. It’s been an absolute pleasure to do homework review today. Well done parents and children!

Sweet Science!

Year 5/6 have been creating their own classification keys this week about sweets. They generated questions based on the similarities and differences between the different types of sweets. The concept of a classification key came from Carl Linnaeus, who created a system of classifying plants and animals, called Systema Naturae. He put them into the groups that are still used today. He classified things according to their similarities and differences.

Year 5 Reading

The reading Year 5 have been doing this week is linked to our Science learning about materials. We have been looking at a report about how plastic is harming our oceans and other environments. The children were working on their retrieval skills to answer questions. This involves the children skimming and scanning the text to find the answers to questions. They look for key words, phrases and sub-headings to help them.

Living and Learning

In Year 5 and 6 we have been discussing how we use the 8 Rs to help us learn. We talked about the strategies that we use the most. The children identified that a lot of them feel they show resilience in their learning and that they are always ready to learn. We then discussed which of the 8 Rs they need to use more. Some children explained that they needed to take more safe risks in school by putting their hand up more in class. Well done to those children who used personal experiences to talk about the 8 Rs.
