We have talked through some scenarios this week in our classes, deciding whether they were showing being respectful or not. Some classes sorted them and others played a game where you moved to a certain side of the room to show what you thought. What do you think about these scenarios? Are they respectful or not?

Wonderful writing
Everyone came back to school rested and full of news. We enjoyed sharing our holiday news with each other so much that we decided to write some sentences too. We use phonics to help spell words we are not sure of, a word bank (a list of useful words) and tricky word mats too.
Help at home by encouraging your child to write for a purpose (a diary entry, a sign or poster, a menu or recipe or letters and cards to friends and family).

Y1 phonics revision from this half term
The phonics resources that we have been sending home this half term with homework are proving beneficial for those who use them. Help your child at home by re-reading the sounds and words on them.

The spellings for the next two weeks continue to be common exception words – words that don’t follow the usual spellings rules or are an exception in some way. In the first week, learn your spellings using the look, say, cover, write, check method. In the second week, cut letters from magazines or newspapers to make the words.

Geography topic review morning – Year 2s
We had a topic review morning today with the Year 2 children – recapping learning from last year. We particularly looked at the big concepts of PLACE, SPACE, SCALE and INTERDEPENDENCE.
We used concentric circles to show how Scholes is in Leeds, Leeds is in England, England is in Europe and Europe is in the world.
We looked at human and physical features in different environments.
We marked the equator, southern and northern hemispheres on a ball.
We also played North, South, East, West to review the points of a compass.
Science – looking for seasonal changes on our autumn walk
All the key stage 1 classes had a lovely autumnal walk around our school grounds on Monday. We returned our conker collection back into the food chain and looked for signs of autumn too.
Help at home by talking about seasonal changes you can see : the days getting shorter, leaves falling from trees and animals hibernating.
