Remembering the Queen through art
All the year 1 and 2 children too part in some collaborative art today. We did some finger painting using red, white and blue, on a silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II. We are going to create similar images using King Charles III too.
Living and Learning : Our school rules
Since we returned after the summer, we have been busy establishing our classroom routines and the school rules.
Talk to your child about our school rules and what they mean. They should be able to give you some examples of them in action!
History topic – The Great Fire of London
We have started our topic and we are learning all about The Great Fire of London. We are using a book, Vlad and the Great Fire of London, to stimulate our learning. (This is a YouTube link. Top tip for watching YouTube with your child: go to the settings cog along the play bar and turn off autoplay – this avoids an inappropriate clip coming up automatically, and helps to discourage your child from passively watching clip after clip.)
We have started by talking about the topic vocabulary, which you can see below. Help your child at home by exploring the information on the BBC bitesize website.
First week
We’ve had a fabulous first week in Key Stage 1. There were a few nerves (from adults and children alike) but once we got back into the swing of things, it was all ok! Thank you for sending your children looking so smart in their uniform, following our uniform policy.
We have become familiar with our new classrooms, met the adults who work there, enjoyed the new playground area, started learning in new books and done Wake Up Shake Up (WUSU) and PE.
Swimming starts next week. 2C on Tuesday, 1A on Thursday and 1,2B on Friday.
Lunch menus
Here are the lunch menus until February 2023. Children will be asked to choose each morning, if they are having a school lunch. Have a look through together so they are familiar with the choices.
PE days – when to wear PE kit?
We are continuing to wearing PE kit on PE days. On the days your child has PE, they should come to school in their school uniform PE kit. (Track-suit bottoms instead of shorts would be good on colder days. Footwear : black/brown/grey/white flat shoes which are safe to run around in.)
Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a plain ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.
Here is a link to our uniform policy.
- 1A (Miss Lowry) – Thursday (swimming) and Friday
- 1,2B (Mrs Latham) – Thursday and Friday (swimming)
- 2C (Miss Young) – Tuesday (swimming) and Friday
Swimming lessons will not take place in the first week. Children will need their swimming kit from week beginning 12 September.
Welcome back
Only a few days before we’re back together! We hope you have all had a great summer.
Have a look here at our school uniform and PE kit policy. We will have spare, clean items of uniform, including PE kit, for children to change into if they’re not wearing the items set out in this policy. It helps us feel part of our school community if everyone follows the same rules.
Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a plain ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.
Children should also have a filled water bottle (only water please) and a sun hat and sun cream, if it’s a sunny day.
Children can wear PE kit on both PE and swimming days (if swimming is cancelled for any reason, we will do PE instead). The days that children should wear PE kit can been seen below :
- 1A (Miss Lowry) – Thursday (swimming) and Friday
- 1,2B (Mrs Latham) – Thursday and Friday (swimming)
- 2C (Miss Young) – Tuesday (swimming) and Friday
We’ll send more information about reading books next week.
September 2022 : Who works in my class?
Here are some posters showing you the adults in each class in Key Stage 1 (years 1 and 2).
School’s out for summer!
Thank you, children, for all your hard work, and thank you parents and carers, for all your support. Have a lovely summer and maybe have a go at this bingo game!
Beach Party
What a day! We’ve had a fantastic fun-filled day at our beach themed party. There were games, inflatables, dancing, bubbles, chalking and a water fight. There was not much sun, but we didn’t care, we had so much fun!
