Living and Learning : drug education from D:Side

Posted on Tuesday 12 July 2022 by Mrs Latham

We had a visitor from D:Side this week telling us all about how to keep our bodies healthy and safe, as part of our Living and Learning lessons. The children (and adults) were all transfixed by the excellent workshop. Ask your child what they learnt.

Living and learning : Drug education

Posted on Thursday 07 July 2022 by Mrs Latham

We have been talking about drugs this week – a substance that changes the way the body or mind works.
The children were very good at discussing different substances and whether they are helpful or harmful – lots can actually be both, in different situations.

We also looked at different scenarios and talked about what we would do in that situation.

Skipping School

Posted on Wednesday 29 June 2022 by Mrs Latham

We had a fabulous time with Jodi and Katie from Skipping School this week. Promoting fitness through fun is always high on our agenda and skipping is the perfect way to do this. We are committed to promote the NHS recommendations that children and young people aged 5 to 18 should:
  • aim for an average of at least 60 minutes of moderate or vigorous intensity physical activity a day across the week
  • take part in a variety of types and intensities of physical activity across the week to develop movement skills, muscles and bones
If you would like a skipping rope, we have some for sale in the office.

Living and learning : RSE

Posted on Friday 24 June 2022 by Mrs Latham

Our Living and learning lessons for the next few weeks are all about families and relationships. We have talked about how each of our families are different and are made up of different people and sometimes across different households too. Lots of children shared how many people were in their family and could talk about their special people.

Reading, writing, maths design technology and art!

Posted on Thursday 23 June 2022 by Mrs Latham

We try to make as many links as possible in our learning. The last couple of weeks have been particularly linked! We read a book about how to draw a cat and dog, which led us to writing instructions ourselves. The instructions have linked to our maths learning about position, shape and direction. We followed instructions to draw the cat in our art lessons and have also been following lots of instructions when we have been learning to sew!

Children have been organised into either Red Team, White Team or Blue Team – with trophies to be awarded. Please donate your entry fee on the Gateway app.

Library visit

Posted on Monday 13 June 2022 by Mrs Hogarth

The Junior Leadership Team enjoyed a visit to Scholes Library last week and were welcomed by Madeline. It is the first time the children have been to the library since the start of Covid, so it felt very different and exciting.

Madeline explained how the system works within the library and explained how every child could register and get their own library card. The cards can be used at any local library and children and adults can borrow up to fifteen books at a time. Madeline explained where the fiction and non-fiction books were for key stage 2 and then the children enjoyed listening to a story before they were let loose choosing books. They selected five books to take back to school for others to enjoy – it was quite a tough decision as there were so  many fabulous new books to choose from.  These have been distributed across the classes for everyone to enjoy.

So, get yourselves along to the library and get registered. You can then enjoy an array of wonderful books to read at home. Happy reading!

Living and learning : money education

Posted on Friday 10 June 2022 by Mrs Latham

We had some money workshops delivered in school this week. This linked to our living and learning lessons which were all about where money comes from. We talked about how we might get pocket money, money for presents or earn money by doing chores.
