Funky Street Dance at Scholes!

Year 3/4 children really showed off their dance moves this week in an afternoon of Street-dance. Led by Rhinestone Dance leader, Rebecca, the children oozed confidence, energy and rhythm.

For the next 6 weeks, the children will learn individual and group routines, with a group performance (including all 3 classes) by the end of the block.

Remember your dancing kit everyone!

Have you responded to our annual survey yet?

At Scholes (Elmet) Primary, we’re always keen to hear your views.

Visit the survey site and respond to a series of statements – either agree / agree strongly or disagree / disagree strongly (or say that you don’t know). There’s also the opportunity to add any comments you may have. The survey should take you about five minutes – maybe a bit longer if you add lots of comments. The survey is open until 11 June.

Thank you for sharing your views.

Sounds with Straws!

25 May 2018

Straw instruments.

In Year 3/4, we’ve been learning about how sounds are made from vibrations. On Friday, we made simple musical instruments out of straws.

All you need is: a straw, a scissors and a big breath. Just make a small, triangular cut at the top of one end of the straw. You can cut holes to change the pitch of the sound – a bit like a recorder.

Spelling homework

This week’s spelling homework is to learn words with the ‘k’ sound but spelt using a ‘ch’. We saw a fantastic range of words in homework review on Thursday, from alchemist to cholera– well done! As always, learning these words in a context of a sentence will help children to remember them.

  • chaos
  • character
  • chemical
  • ache
  • technology
  • anchor
  • echo
  • stomach
  • monarch

Sound around us!

Our new topic, Sound, has kicked off with a sound survey walk around school this afternoon. We predicted that our Nursery area would be the noisiest and the field would be the quietest. But, after our sound walk we discovered that Nursery was one of the quietest areas in school!

We are learning that vibrations make sounds.

The children discussed the most important sounds that we hear and and prioritised them using a Diamond 9 grid.  Many children said that fire alarms and sirens were the most important sounds. Parent voices and teacher instructions were thankfully not too far down the list!
