Y2 Football

Well done again to our fantastic Year 2 football teams for playing some fantastic football this Monday evening. Our next game will be Monday 24th March.

Thank you again to FOSP for the brilliant football kits, and to parents for bringing their children along!

Miss Young

Yoga

For the last 2 weeks of half term we are doing yoga in PE. We are LOVING IT! We start the learning off with some breathing exercises, then practise some yoga poses. We put 3/4 balances to create a ‘flow’ and then have a go at creating our own balances.

On our mats we practised lots of low and high poses.

We also did some balancing in pairs and in threes!

Geography – Fieldwork

This week 2C went on a trip into the local area. We walked into Scholes village and surveyed 5 locations. Our first stop was the outside of School. We noticed it was very clean and felt safe.

There was no litter outside of school. We also visited the library, St Phillips church, the Peace flame and the village hall. The village hall had the most litter outside of it but there was not much. The litter we did spot, we picked up!

Thank you to our adult volunteers for coming along on this trip!

Living and Learning

Our Living and Learning statement this week is ‘I can assess my own risks.’ This week, KS1 went on a Geography trip into Scholes. We did some fieldwork and collected data about our local area. Before we went on the walk the children discussed what risks we might come across and how we could stay safe.

One of the risks we talked about what cars coming past us. We could stay safe by wearing a high visibility jacket (so that we could be seen), stick with our partner and watch where we are walking (on the path).

We assess our risks every day. Another risk we assess regularly is the safety of our school playground when it has been raining. We know it can be quite slippery after it has rained. To keep safe, we walk and don’t run and we stay off the equipment.

Help at home by discussing what risks children might face and how they can be avoided in order to keep safe.

Lotherton Hall trip

We had a fantastic time at Lotherton Hall on Friday! 2C started off over in the Deer Park. We had a snack and discussed the local woodland and how this is well suited to the deer and their needs.

We then headed over to the Wildlife park and spotted lots of fantastic animals including penguins, capybara, flamingos and wallaby.

After lunch, we looked at the bats, armadillo and cloud rats before enjoying a workshop all about animals and their habitats.

Thank you to the brilliant adults that took time out of their days to join us on our school trip. We wouldn’t have been able to go without you!

We can’t wait for our next school trip already!

Living and learning

‘I know what a drug is’.

At school, our definition of a drug is something that alters our mind and/or our body. This week KS1 discussed what safe drugs are such as medicine and how we can ingest these safely.

We discussed several scenarios.

The children know that if they are feeling poorly or are hurt, the sensible thing to do is tell a trusted adult. It is not safe to take medicine without an adult.

We have been learning about materials this half term in Science. We know lots of different materials in their properties.

‘Fabric is usually soft and smooth.’

‘Wood is usually hard and strong. It comes from trees.’

‘Glass is a man-made material but it comes from sand which is a natural material.’

This week we conducted an experiment. We collected lots of recycling materials from home and built houses out of the materials. We then dropped a wooden brick on our houses, to see which materials were strongest.

Take a look at what we’ve been up to!

Y2 football superstars!

Well done to our Y2 footballers for playing some fantastic football yet again last night! We saw some brilliant goals scored and the children worked well as a team.

See below the results.

Well done Scholes A and B!

Thank you to all of the parents for supporting the children and a big thank you again to FOSP for providing the kits. We look forward to more games in the New Year!
