Hello everyone! Here is your learning for today.

Maths

Complete the activities below.

Challenge : Draw a square and a rectangle. Divide the shapes into quarters. Is there more than one way to make quarters (remember the four parts need to be equal) ?

Reading

Read ‘The boy who cried wolf’ again from yesterday. Try to add expression to the parts where someone is speaking.

Use the words with the suffix ed from yesterday. Put each word into a sentence. Say your sentence out loud and then write it. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter and end it with a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Topic

We had started singing this song in our singing lessons before school closed. The words are below. Read along and sing the song. It made us feel powerful, strong and confident when we sang it. We hope it makes you feel that way too.

Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Like a small boat, on the ocean
Sending big waves, into motion
Like how a single word, can make a heart open
I might only have one chance but I can make an explosion

And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?

This is my fight song, take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song, my power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong, I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes, ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

Losing friends and I’m chasing sleep
Everybody’s worried about me
In too deep
Say I’m in too deep (in too deep)
And it’s been two years I miss my home
But there’s a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe

And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?

This is my fight song, take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song, my power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong, I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes, ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

A lot of fight left in me

Like a small boat
On the ocean
I might only have one chance
But I can make an explosion

This is my fight song, take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song, my power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong, I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes, ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

Know I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me

Hello!

Hope you’re all well today and ready for another day of home learning.

Remember the importance of keeping fit and healthy as well as completing your home learning tasks. Are you eating enough fruit and vegetables? Are you keeping yourself hydrated with water? What type of exercise are you doing daily? It could be some skipping, riding your bike or you might still be a dedicated viewer of Jo Wicks.

Also, don’t forget to check out Mr Catherall’s quiz from last Friday if you haven’t already done so. He gets you doing some crazy stuff!

Here’s your learning for today…

Year 5 Maths

Your learning today is division.

Year 6 Maths

Here are the answers to yesterday’s arithmetic paper.

Today, your learning is about ratio and proportion. Here is a link to the White Rose Maths website. Watch the video in week 2 lesson two ratio and proportion.

After watching the video, answer these questions in your exercise book.

Year 5/6 Reading

Watch this video to find out your learning for today.

You will also need to read this text.

Year 5/6 Living and Learning

This week’s living and learning statement is ‘I recognise the importance of money’.

In preparation for our living and learning lesson tomorrow, your task is to:

  • Create a poster, spider diagram, list or any other choice you can think of, that shows what you know about the importance of money.

Here’s some ideas to think about:

  • What activities can you do without money? What can’t you do if you don’t have money?
  • What do you do with money? Do you save it, or spend it immediately? Why?
  • How do people make money? Ask your parents/carers at home to help you.
  • Could you live without money? Explain your thoughts.

Tomorrow, we will discuss some of these ideas in a video lesson – good luck!

Morning!
Week six of our home learning tasks! Well done if you have done some home learning, even if it is not everything. We hope you are still enjoying the videos from teachers. It is strange not having anyone answering us but we know you like seeing your teachers talking about the learning. As time goes on, some of you may be struggling to keep up with all the tasks. Don’t worry, any learning that is missed we will catch up on once we get back to school. The most important thing at the moment is to stay safe and look after your emotional well-being. If you need any help or support, please email your class teacher.

Try to keep reading for at least twenty minutes per day. If you have run out of your own books to read there is a fab online library of eBooks to read on https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/ Just register on the website, log in and choose what you want to read.

There is new content on BBC Bitesize, with three lessons each day: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize and Oak National Academy (ONA), also with three lessons each day: https://www.thenational.academy/ There’s also White Rose: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/

Each Monday, we will also upload a set of spellings for you to practise over the course of the week. Then on Friday, see if you can write them out without looking at them. Someone could test you if you want.

Y2s will also have times table or division facts to learn too.

Weekly spellings :

Y1 : soon food look book card dark fork short

Y2 : change badge edge race ice city knock know knee knit

Times tables : If you ready, start learning ÷4 (half and half again, link to ÷2) OR keep going with times 2, 3, 5 or 10 and divide 2, 3, 5 or 10

Maths

More fractions learning this week. We are focusing on quarters. Watch the slideshow by Miss Lowry all about quarters : https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cYh1ltg1e8

What is VE day?
VE Day – or Victory in Europe Day, marks the day towards the end of World War Two (WW2) when fighting against Nazi Germany in Europe came to an end.

Happy VE Day! You might be busy with your family today or enjoying the bank holiday as a day off. If not, here are a few things you can do.

Maths

Complete the halves and doubles fluency :

Reading – karaoke/sing-a-long

This is a famous song sung by Vera Lynn at the end of the war. Join in, read the words and sing along!

Topic – VE Day

Write down any facts you can remember about VE Day, draw a picture or make a poster.

If you can, you could also have your own VE Day celebration. You could display your flags that you made on Tuesday. You could decorate your house or dress up in red, white and blue. You might be able to bake or make something to eat at the party. You could make a flag to wave. Try to have a fun day, but stay safe.

08 May 2020: Home Learning

Happy Friday, everyone!

Keep your trick shot challenges coming in! There has definitely been more from 56M – come on 56S and 56OB!

Later today, at 3pm, the quiz of the week will return to the class news section. Check that out for a bit of fun with your family.

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe. We call it Victory in Europe Day or VE Day for short. In 1945, there were three whole days of celebrations including parades, street parties, a service of thanksgiving and a concert in central London! As you can imagine, people were extremely relieved and thrilled that the war was over and, from then on, the 8th of May each year was a public holiday.

Your three tasks today are optional; feel free to do none, one, two or all of them.

In order to find out all about VE Day, you might want to  read this PowerPoint or watch this clip about VE Day celebrations.

Task One

Task one is to make your own radio or TV broadcast pretending to be Winston Churchill announcing the Victory in Europe.
Things to think about…
– What would you say?
– How would you say it?
– How would you feel?
– How would the British public feel?
– Can you include any information you’ve just read?
You could either write it down, perform it or even record your announcement.

Task Two

The Royal Mint has released a special £2 coin to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. This Newsround article explains more about this.

Once you’ve read the information, have a go at designing your own £2 coin to mark this occasion.

Task Three

Music was an important part of the celebrations. Today, you can make your own musical instruments using clean junk or bits and bobs from around your house. Check out this website for inspiration. Can you make a guitar, drum or even a xylophone?

As always we’d love to hear about what you’ve been up to so please email your class teacher.

Hey everyone

I hope you’re all well and are staying happy and healthy. Thanks to the people who are regularly in touch – it’s great to hear from you. Don’t forget you can email your class teacher for help, or even just to say hello.

Also, don’t forget to regularly check out the class news section of the website. Here, you’ll find lots of things that will hopefully keep you entertained. Last Friday, for example, I made a quiz of the week for you to have a go at with your families. I’ll do this again this week – it will go live at 3pm every Friday.

One last thing before we get started. Tomorrow, May 08, is a bank holiday. We have this bank holiday to celebrate VE day. With this in mind, because some families might just want to enjoy the day together, your home learning will be optional. There will be three tasks, based on VE day, and you can choose to do none, some, or all of them.

Here is your learning for today…

Y5 Maths

Your learning today is multiplication.

Check out this video.

Then, if you’re up for it, give these challenges a go.

Y6 Maths

Answers for yesterday can be found on this page of maths is fun.

Starter: spend 15 minutes on Times Tables Rockstars.

Here is another video lesson.  Make sure you pause as the answers are on the next slide.

Y5,6 Reading

As this is our last reading lesson of the week, I’d like you to do something a little different – but really important!

Your learning today is to just enjoy reading. You can read whatever you want, wherever you want for as long as you want. You could choose to read a book, a magazine, something online, a comic…whatever you like. You could even read more than one thing!

I would like you though to email your class teacher. In your email, you should put the following information…

  • What you read
  • Where you read it – go extreme (in a tree, maybe?!)
  • What you liked about it

Y5,6 Topic

Your geography themed learning today is about mountains and tourism.

Check out this video.
