In Living and learning, we’ve finished the half term learning about careers and money. Two questions were posed. The children worked in groups to contribute lots of great answers.
How do we look after money?
How does money make you feel?
At home, talk with you child about: how to save money, how to budget and about whether something is value for money.
This week, 3,4N have been working in groups and using equipment to create their own games with rules. They then had to teach their game to another group. They worked on problem solving, group work and used the skills they’ve developed over the year.
Today, Year 3 and 4 enjoyed a trip to Eureka. The main focus of our trip was to kick-start our mini-topic sound and hearing, starting next week. As well as looking at how an ear works and listening to different sounds in the sound garden, we also had time to learn more about our bodies and role play in the garage, house and bank.
We made the most of the lovely weather and ate our lunch outside. The children enjoyed playing in the gardens too.
This week, Year 3/4 have been recognising emotions in themselves and in others. The children watched a short video clip where they were asked to recognise a character’s feelings from his facial expression and body language. The children have also discussed how different situations can affect the way someone is feeling. Being aware of different emotions – both positive and negative – is an important basis for good mental health.
This week, we’ve started our new mini-topic… Electricity. We started our topic by thinking about what is electricity. Each group looked at pictures of appliances and sorted them into electrical and non-electrical appliances. The children then moved on to create a Venn diagram to show appliances that are ran by mains electricity, battery power or both.
Then, we dicussed how electricity works. Each group were given pictures of circuits and predicted whether the bulb would light. The children made their predictions and tested each circuit. There was some fantastic learning, team work and discussions throughout the lesson. I was extremely impressed! The children were very excited and proud when they made a complete circuit and saw the light bulb light up. We then went on to discuss why some of the bulbs were brighter. The children successfully told me it was when there was more power from an extra battery.
Today, we visited our lovely school library and the children chose books to take home for the week. They were really enthusiastic about choosing their own book to take home. Please ensure your child looks after their book and returns it to school every week. If your child wishes to keep the book for longer then that’s fine, but please note that a new book will not be issued without the return of the old one! I hope you enjoy reading together.
This week, we’ve enjoyed two fantastic performances of our Bee Musical production. We’re sure you’ll agree the children have done a great job and we’re very proud of their performances. Every child tried their best and learnt songs, dances and lines.

This week, Year 3 and 4 have been busy rehearsing their spring production: The Bee Musical. Well done to all of the children who have spent time at home learning lines and song words. We’re ready to show off our great acting skills and wonderful singing voices on Wednesday. If you still require tickets, please return the slip from the production letter to the school office on Monday and Tuesday. Our performance times are 9.30am and 1.30pm on Wednesday 28 March.
Today, Year 3 and 4 met both birds of prey and exotic creatures. This morning, all the children came face to face with three different owls and a Harris hawk. The children were very excited to take this opportunity to hold the smallest of the three owls – the burrowing owl.
All the children were extremely mature and handled the owls with great care and respect.
We were amazed to see the size of the brilliant eagle owl. The children gasped as it flew around the hall.
We all loved the barn owl! The children commented how much heavier it was compared to the small burrowing owl. Watch it fly…
The children loved seeing the Harris hawk. It was brilliant watching the Harris hawk catch its food in mid flight, as Ryan threw it up in the air. 
This afternoon, we met the exotic creatures. Meeting and holding the python was the most exciting part of the day for most. All the children were extremely brave and asked insightful questions to learn more about their favourite animal of the day.
We also met and held a leopard gecko, some cockroaches, and a giant frog.
Ruby had a very successful weekend at the Jorvik Swimming Gala, representing East Leeds. Ruby works incredibly hard, she trains multiple times a week and her hard work is paying off. This weekend she won five medals: one silver, two bronze and two fourth place.
Well done, Ruby. We’re very proud of you!
