First week

We’ve had a fabulous first week in Key Stage 1. There were a few nerves (from adults and children alike) but once we got back into the swing of things, it was all ok! Thank you for sending your children looking so smart in their uniform, following our uniform policy.

We have become familiar with our new classrooms, met the adults who work there, enjoyed the new playground area, started learning in new books and done Wake Up Shake Up (WUSU) and PE.

Swimming starts next week. 2C on Tuesday, 1A on Thursday and 1,2B on Friday.

09 and 16 September 2022

This week’s spellings are ‘Common Exception’ words – words that don’t follow the usual spelling rule or pattern. We keep spellings for 2 weeks. On the first week, children need to read and write the word using the ‘look, say, cover, write, check’ method. On the second week, they can write them using rainbow writing. If you want to use any other ways of helping you remember them, feel free!

PE days – when to wear PE kit?

We are continuing to wearing PE kit on PE days. On the days your child has PE, they should come to school in their school uniform PE kit. (Track-suit bottoms instead of shorts would be good on colder days. Footwear : black/brown/grey/white flat shoes which are safe to run around in.)

Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a plain ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.

Here is a link to our uniform policy.

  • 1A (Miss Lowry) – Thursday (swimming) and Friday
  • 1,2B (Mrs Latham) – Thursday and Friday (swimming)
  • 2C (Miss Young) – Tuesday (swimming) and Friday

Swimming lessons will not take place in the first week. Children will need their swimming kit from week beginning 12 September.

Welcome back

Only a few days before we’re back together! We hope you have all had a great summer.

Have a look here at our school uniform and PE kit policy. We will have spare, clean items of uniform, including PE kit, for children to change into if they’re not wearing the items set out in this policy. It helps us feel part of our school community if everyone follows the same rules.

Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a plain ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.

Children should also have a filled water bottle (only water please) and a sun hat and sun cream, if it’s a sunny day.

Children can wear PE kit on both PE and swimming days (if swimming is cancelled for any reason, we will do PE instead). The days that children should wear PE kit can been seen below :

  • 1A (Miss Lowry) – Thursday (swimming) and Friday
  • 1,2B (Mrs Latham) – Thursday and Friday (swimming)
  • 2C (Miss Young) – Tuesday (swimming) and Friday

We’ll send more information about reading books next week.

WUSU Crew 2022

The two Wake Up Shake Up (WUSU) after school clubs have been running this year, after a break during the pandemic. It is great fun keeping active through dance and we have enjoyed making new routines to teach the rest of school. The whole school takes an active break at 10 o clock each day; dancing, running or skipping to contribute towards the NHS guidelines of 60 active minutes each day.
