Living & Learning-Classroom Rules.
This week we have thought about rules that make our classrooms really happy places. Each class has made their unique rules, signed them and displayed them within the classroom.
Following our weekly ethos statement: we have been actively greeting people politely wherever we go.
We have also been ‘Ready to learn’ which is one of the eight ‘R’s’ we will be looking at this half term.
Well done KS1, a fabulous first week back!
Health Week Highlights 2-6 July 2018
What a jam-packed week! We focused on learning about our physical and mental health and engaged in a wide variety of activities including:
- Whole school sports roundabout
- Tag rugby sessions with 5 Star Sports
- Tutti Frutti production of ‘Keepy Uppy’
- Fruit tasting, drawing, smoothie and kebab making
- Living and Learning lessons – healthy choices and sun safety
- Crucial Crew – personal safety and risk assessing
- KS2 competitive sports afternoon
- WUSU Crew performance
- Dodgeball – Leeds City Finals
- Netball, rounders, football
- Mindfulness
- Yoga
- Change for Life – Train like a Jedi
- Visit from Doodles the donkey from the Donkey Sanctuary
- Flex Dance – World Cup dance workshops and dance-off in front of the whole school

Year 6 investigation
Children in year 6 have been investigating triangular numbers. Can you find a pattern? What is the rule?
Badminton Lesson
5/6M had a great time honing their badminton skills in preparation for the summer.
Children had many top tips:
- Keep serve accurate by hitting underarm
- The arm holding the shuttlecock should be still
- Keep your feet planted when serving
5/6M join in afternoon
Our join in afternoon was a great way to start our mini topic on world history. During the afternoon, we learnt how to decode Egyptian hieroglyphs. After this, we wrote our names on papyrus paper. With the mini topic starting after half term, you might want to discuss some possible ancient Egyptian research areas with your children: entertainment, health, crime and punishment, laws, games, kings and queens etc.
Living and Learning – Money, money, money.
KS1 have been discussing where money comes from and the choices we have when we do have some money. What would you spend £5 on? The children maturely spoke about the difference between ‘needing’ to buy something and ‘wanting’ to buy it.

You already have the Year 5 and 6 Statutory Spelling list in your homework book. We’ve learned many of the spelling patterns and rules from this list already this year.
Your spelling task this week is to identify ten new words on the list. Learn these new spellings in whichever way is best for you. Some people need to read them; some people need to write them or say them. We’ll be testing each other.
1,2V PE
We enjoyed our PE lesson on the field today. We worked on our balł skills, played fetch and timebomb. Please ensure your child has tracksuit bottoms, if they prefer, and suitable shoes (or bring trainers/pumps) for PE so they can fully participate.

Look at the photographs. You could talk about:
- the learning that you see in the photos
- what learning could have happened before
- what learning might happen next
Times tables Practise recalling facts for x7 and ÷7.
Year 6 homework is Practice Makes Perfect.
We’ve given the children four pages in their CGP Maths Revision book (p13, 14, 22, 25) and four in their CGP English Revision book (p42, 43, 49, 50). They need to be completed by Tuesday.
