Sports Roundabout
Team Norway was victorious at the Sports Roundabout but the main purpose was to enjoy ourselves, and we did that!
The weather was just about bearable while we jumped, ran kicked and threw our way around the field.
Thanks to all the families who came to support their children.
Being healthy week
What a fantastic week we have had in school. The sun has been shining, the temperatures have been warm, but we’ve not let the heat stop us from lots of learning and having fun!
We have learnt all about keeping our body and mind healthy in lots of sessions this week. Take a look at what we’ve been up to!
Skipping with Year 3/4
Classroom yoga and mindfulness activities
Sun safety
Vaccinations and germs
Learning about how our body works with D:side
Keeping our teeth clean
Flex dance
Help at home: by talking to your child at about how to keep our bodies and minds healthy and talk about the importance of this. Find time to do physical exercise and mindfulness activities where possible and spend time outside!
Summer disco
We had a fantastic time at the school disco on Friday. We danced and sang to some of our favourite music and played lots of games. Thank you to everyone for coming and as always, thank you for the support of FOSP for the end of disco treats.
WE HAD LOTS OF FUN!
We built some chairs!
This week, 2C have been busy building chairs this week for baby bear to sit on. We had a practice last week using paper however we realised this material was not strong enough. This week we used cardboard. This was a much stronger material.
We used card, masking tape and paper straws to build our chairs.
Butterfly release
Over the past 3 weeks, KS1 have each had some caterpillar friends in their classrooms. The caterpillars soon tripled in size., before going into their cocoon for a week or so.
Yesterday morning, we came into school to find lots of beautiful butterflies had hatched.
We had a lovely time releasing them into our flower garden in the afternoon.
Help at home by talking to children about the importance of wildlife and how we can protect it.
Trip to Temple Newsam
We’ve had a fabulous day as Temple Newsam supporting our Design and Technology learning.
We met Katie the pig who was mum to 9 piglets and decided which shapes would be strong and stable to make a shelter for her.
We made some great structures. We also met lots of other animals (mainly mammal but some birds too) where we talked about the names of offspring and how mammals feed their young with milk from their body.
Eating our packed lunch was also a highlight of the day!
Temple Newsam-1A
Wow, what a spectacular day for a trip to the farm! We have had many cooling down breaks under trees today. Our Science topic came to life as we have been focusing on ‘Growing Up’, life cycles and baby mammals. We saw plenty of mammals and their offspring today. Our ‘Three Little Pigs’ Design Technology workshop was inside a cool stone building. We enjoyed making structures to hide a little pig in.
A HUGE thankyou to the many adults who volunteered to join us for the day. We hope you had as much fun as we did.
Temple Newsam Trip 2C
KS1 have had a wonderful day today visiting Temple Newsam Farm!
We started off the day with a fun 15 minutes on the playground before having a snack and visiting the animals on the farm.
We then did a workshop about the Three Little Pigs. We went to visit ‘Katie’ the pig in her pen. She had recently given birth to lots of little piglets. They were very sweet! We learnt that despite their stereotype, pigs are one of the cleanest farmyard animals. They make nests to live in, so we decided to make some structures, much like the houses in the Three Little Pigs. We made these out of sticks and putty!
We saw some more lambs, guinea pigs and chicks before having lunch and getting back on the coach.
WE HAVE HAD AN AWESOME DAY!!
Thank you to all adults at home, we wouldn’t be able to do these trips without your support. A HUGE thank you to all of our volunteers. We wouldn’t be able to go on these trips without you.
1A – Topic – cylinder silliness
During the last lesson of Topic, we learnt that the cylinder was the strongest 3D shape because it doesn’t have any corners. We laid books on top of a paper cylinder and counted 12 books before it collapsed. We had such a fun filled afternoon this afternoon experimenting further with the strength of the cylinder shape.
Everyone made their own cylinders using paper and masking tape. The children displayed such awesome team work and everybody was so willing to help one another. It was lovely!
Once all our cylinders were made, we taped all of our groups cylinders together to find out whether adding more cylinders weakens the structure or strengthens it. We laid books on top of our super-structures and counted to see whether they could hold more or fewer books than one single cylinder. We found that amazingly, our super-structures weren’t just a little bit stronger… they were MUCH stronger!
After that, we went one step further still – we used the super-structures we had made and created a super-duper structure by taping all of them together. It was buzzing in the classroom! Everyone was so excited that we were going to try and see if the super-duper structure would hold the weight of a person! We had a brave volunteer who stepped up. We could hardly believe it – the super-duper structure worked!!!
Help at home: Why don’t you try the experiment at home? You could tape paper cylinders together to find out how many you need to hold the weight of different members of the family.
Living and learning : relationships
We have be learning about healthy relationships and boundaries in our Living and Learning sessions over the last few weeks.
We read a story called ‘More than one friend’. It made us think about leaving people out, having more than one best friend and being ourselves in friendships.
Friendships should make us feel happy and safe. If children have worries about friends, we encourage them to Start Telling Other People. Talking to an adult they trust – at home, outside the family, or at school.
