We are enjoying getting back into WUSU, even if it is just with our class bubbles. Regular activity breaks outside are important for our physical and mental well being, and improve concentration when we return to the classroom afterwards.

Celebration certificates 1,2V
We have had a fab first week. All the children have settled and we feel like we know each other quite well already!
As we can’t have our usual celebration assembly on a Friday at the moment, we will be posting the certificate winners on here each week for each class.
For great learning…
Peter – for super work in maths, writing numbers all the way up to 100!
For sport and physical activity…
Grayson – for amazing moves and enthusiasm in Wake Up Shake Up (WUSU).
For living and learning…
Maisie – for being so helpful and kind. You are an excellent Year 2 role model.
Homework
It’s Friday so your child will be coming home with a homework task: we’re setting weekly homework as we normally do. The key difference here is that Homework Books should stay at home for the time being.
Just as normal, the tasks are posted on the website. Instead of the task pasted into books, children take home a piece of paper with the task on, too. The tasks are a variety of Talk Time, Practice Makes Perfect and Creative, but especially the first two.
Parents can email a picture of the completed task (or task in process) or update about a completed task. (Lots of you were doing this with the home learning tasks we set in Spring and Summer terms). The homework will be reviewed in school, so some pictures would be good!
11 September 2020
This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is for children to learn to write their full name. For more information, the Homework Guide can be found here.
Year 1s please try to use a lead-in line and Year 2s, joined. A copy of the handwriting guide can be found here.

We will be working our way through the ‘common exception words’ (words that do not follow the usual spelling rules).
Encourage children to write their spellings out a few times over the week, ready to be tested at school on a Friday.

Supporting reading at home in Key Stage 1
Children will be bringing home at least 2 reading books this week. These will be changed once a week to minimise books moving between home and school.
Please return books to be changed on the days below. We will quarantine books before putting them back in the system.
1,2V (Mrs Latham) – WEDNESDAY
2C (Mr Gathercole) – THURSDAY
1KN (Miss Lowry/Mrs Lake) – FRIDAY
Children will be bringing home a variety of books. The ‘practise phonics’ book (sticker on the front cover) is for children to work on their ‘sounding out’ of words. A ‘children’s choice’ book will be chosen by the children and can be read together. Look at the pictures, talk about the characters or information and ask questions.
Please comment on how your child copes with the books as it may take us a little time to adjust and match books to each child. Year 2s will gradually move away from phonics books and have more children’s choice books and then freedom to be ‘free readers’.
Children will also choose a library book each Friday (all classes will visit the library on FRIDAY).
Here is a display in school explaining the new system, which you are not able to see yet. Help us help your child by reading anything and everything you can. THANK YOU!
Welcome back!
Wearing PE kit to school – which days?
Hopefully you have read the information in the Autumn for all – Key Info Scholes, which also has a link to our uniform policy.
On the days your child has PE, they should come to school in their PE kit. (Track-suit bottoms instead of shorts would be good on colder days. Footwear : black/brown/grey/white flat shoes which are safe to run around in.)
Footwear on PE days could be children’s ‘school shoes’ which are often a ‘trainer’ style anyway, if you want to avoid having to buy 2 pairs of shoes.
Please find below the days each class has allocated PE times, which will be taught outdoors, except in extreme weather.
